My duck killed my other duck

I also don't believe that they killed her but they did cause her to weaken since my brother had gotten her out and took her inside to tend for her wounds this morning and in the afternoon she later passed
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I know this thread hasn't been active for a couple days but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this so we can prevent it happening again-

So how large is the pen, and how many ducks are there in it? And you may have answered this already (I did read through the whole thread but can't recall), what brand of food, and how much do they have?

I think it's likely, as others have said, that she was somehow injured before the others began biting at her- but my gut instinct is that they're overcrowded and she couldn't escape the pecking. If you let us know the measurements/show us a photo of the pen, we may be able to give you advice on temporary housing while you wait on a new pen, if it is too small.

We don't want this to happen to anymore of them, so please let us help :hugs

I am also interested to know how the ducks are doing there and if the problem was solved so that maybe we can help you and no more ducks get hurt ♥️

I had a duck and drake violently attack another duck until it almost killed her. I’ve never seen it before and haven’t since. It was constant and non stop until I pulled the duck out. While predators can and most often do the killing after having the two I did, nothing is out of the impossible. These were Muscovy siblings that I got rid of straight away and told the sanctuary exactly why I was getting rid of them. The entire clutch I bought of that group turned out meaner than s***. I breed for temperament so those two should have ended up on someone’s dinner plate but living urban I had no way to do it myself or I would have. I have a friend I gave two drakes from that same clutch and hers were mean too.

Watch these ducks you have left and make sure they have acceptable temperament before breeding them. You may never know what really happened. Others have given good advice so if your pen is covered in chicken wire it’s time to fix it now.

I wanted to add something to my post which has bothered me since I typed it. When I placed these two ducks I didn’t reach out to a sanctuary to take them in. Someone contacted me to take them then later I found out she had a sanctuary “of sorts” (that’s another story). I believe in placing your own livestock and not dump what you don’t want. It probably doesn’t matter to others that I made this correction but after running a dog rescue for several years it pisses me off that people say they gave their pets to a rescue to absolve themselves from placing the animal themselves. That was not the case with these birds.
