My duck killed my other duck

I have seen so many heartbreaking stories on here where chicken wire was used and someone came out and found their birds either dismembered or partially eaten from a raccoon getting to their birds
It wasn't another animal since my mom said she saw them picking at her, I belive as another user said it was a wire cloth that I use? It's meant to keep them safe from predators.

Ducks and chickens will peck and eat already wounded or dead animals of their same species. It is very very unusual for them to actually kill each other. This is why we are trying to explore as many possibilities as possible.

Chicken wire is not predator proof. Sure, it keeps chickens in, but a lot of predators can get through it, including rats. Also, I have seen where foxes keep working the edge of the chicken wire and rip it from the staples/nails. In the case of next door, all the chickens were massacred in one night (really poorly built enclosure by the previous owners).
Sorry I might have gotten the wire wrong it's cloth wire I believe. Also my mom said that it wasn't another animal since she saw my duck biting her butt where all the bites were located

I understand this as well since there's always a possibility. My mom said that she left for a few minutes before returning and seeing Alex biting her. She also mentioned the bites looked like the duck bites so im not so sure anymore

I also don't believe that they killed her but they did cause her to weaken since my brother had gotten her out and took her inside to tend for her wounds this morning and in the afternoon she later passed

If they pulled out a significant amount of feathering I suppose it's possible she died of shock.

Unfortunately chicken wire doesn't prevent predators from sticking a paw in. I have found younger chickens with their spines , because they were curious when Mr fox came around and got really close to the wire, giving the fox the opportunity to grab onto them, but couldn't take them with him

Poultry are known to bite open flesh, so that doesn't provide evidence proving that your other ducks killed her

If the duck had somehow got hurt and had blood on her then others maybe drawn to the blood and start biting that area
As for duck bite marks I myself have never seen on to even know what they would look like
When my drake did bite me a few times I get a bruise but not some mark in a pattern
I’m not convinced they took a perfectly healthy unharmed duck and held her down and chews her live
I could only see this if they we’re starving
Does she still have the bird you could take pictures of the wounds
If you have a mad killer duck in your flock I would worry for the other ducks
I’m also worried about space for the amount you have
I do know things can get tense if ducks don’t have the space
But not eat alive
So maybe giving us amount of ducks and size of the pen would help

Do you mean hardware cloth?

kinda like this? She may very well have been ill before hand. The ducks maybe started to nibble then tufts of feathers were pulled inviting more nibbling. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's really hard trying to multitask with the animals and life during college :/
