my duck needs surgery !!!!

@Miss Lydia would you mind tagging them on here or inquiring about the type of anesthesia used and how they made the process as smooth as possible? I can't imagine giving them elective surgery when it feels like the risk is just so high (dont know an exact percentage). I am trying to do my best to make sure she comes back to us.
This is the only one I found so far https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/896197/successful-duck-surgery I tagged them not sure if they still come on BYC,

I guess I will just fill everyone in on the current situation, and prodvide a little information in case someone else runs into this problem. We took in our other two and they are completely fine. One has what seems to be a smaller piece of flat metal no sharp edges that isn't providing any risk to her. So all in all they are healthy.

It's weird how much one duck can pick up so much and the other two pick up virtually nothing even though they have been exposed to the same things.

Our bad girl is doing better and showings signs of her old self. Hopefully she will continue to get stronger for surgery on Wednesday.

She's currently on
2 antibiotics and 1 pain med orally
1 calcium injection

$610 vet visit for her. The meds alone are over half of that. Ridiculous.
Surgery is looking like it's going to be $900-$1000.

As far as the anesthesia...research I have done overwhelmingly shows that Isoflurane(which our surgeon will be using) is the best for our avian friends. There has recently been a newer type called sevoflurane which in some cases seems to be the better choice. From the hundreds of things I've read even though a lot of them reiterate the same thing I would never let my vet or recommend someone use something other than those two.

If anyone comes across any other helpful information before Wednesday please let us know thank you for all your help!

I am thankful for you all that you have at least 2 that are doing well and healthy. And that your sick one is feeling better. Good for you doing the research and being up to date on what is safe and what isn't.

I hope and pray she comes through her surgery and has a complete recovery. We can sure tell you are very much dedicated to them and her.

Update!!!

our little baby safely made it out of surgery last night. She is so strong!! We got her home around 12 last night and so far she's making it through fine. She is vomiting every few hours (seem to think it is just a sensitive stomach) she is only drinking water and hasn't eaten anything since we got her. Even tried going back to chick starter just to see and no luck.

Great to hear she made it through and is home. Did the vet mention tube feeding her as an alternative till she is back eating good again? I'd talk with them because you don't want her going too long with out eating. Might want to put some electrolytes into her drinking water too.

No mention from the vet, and it didnt come up in conversation when they were releasing her. I'm waiting on a phone call back to see what their recommendation is. In what way can I provide the electrolytes she needs?

You can use plain gator aid or from your feed store they should have vitamins with electrolytes or just plain electrolytes. If she is drinking good you could also try some very soupy chick feeds mostly water to get her started back. Use warm water.

Do they have a basic Gatorade? Or will the sugars from other flavors not hurt her? So take some warm water and just put some feed in there to make some sort of "soup"? I thought about that just not sure how to go about it.
