My eggs are here!!!

I have around 20 quails in a 15mtr *30 mtr garden. Will they hatch the eggs? Or i have to hatch them in an incubator?

In Most Cases (stress Most) Quail Do Not Brood Well Enough Or Long Enough To Successfully Hatch. If They Even Go Broody At All. There Are Always Exceptions, But They Are Rare.

So I've been candeling every once in a while to see what kind of changes I can see. Not really sure what I'm looking for, but after the first few days, I saw red veins

and now I see dark in the middle, light color at both ends?

Not really sure what that means...

Also, if anyone knows anything about hatching chukar, at what point should I be able to tell anything with candeling? this is day three, when should I be able to see some veining?

I ALWAYS GIVE CHUKAR 10 DAYS, BUT THATS JUST HOW I DO IT, I'M SURE MOST FOLKS HAVE THEIR OWN WAYS. AT 10 DAYS YOU CAN TELL THAT THE EMBRYO IS DEVELOPING, I CANDLE AGAIN AT THE MOVING POINT FOR LOCKDOWN (I USE A SEPERATE HATCHER, SO MY EGGS GET MOVED FROM WHICHEVER BATOR THEY ARE IN TO 1 OF THE HATCHERS FOR LOCKDOWN) ANBODY THATS A DAY LATE FOR THE HATCHING PARTY GETS FLOAT TESTED AND I MAKE A DECISION AFTER THE RESULTS OF THE FLOAT TEST

All I really look for is the veins in coturnix . . .
Once in a while, you can see the embryo moving, but you only get a window of a few days for this.
By your description, you got some good development.

Im not even gonna try candling the chukars for another few days, but I bet they are pretty easy to see thru.
Its still early yet for those eggs . . .
Ill give mine a try around day 7 or 8, that seems to work pretty good for me.

My colored ringneck eggs Ive heard are the hardest of all to candle . . .

Please explain this?
And the result I would be looking for?

OK HERE WE GO....

1 BOWL OF 100 DEGREE WATER THAT IS SUFFICIENT DEPTH TO FLOAT OR SINK EGGS BEING TESTED (I USE A CLEAR GLASS SALAD SERVING BOWL)

ALLOW THE WATER TO SETTLE AFTER FILLING BOWL AND GENTLY (WITH AS LITTLE WATER DISTURBANCE AS POSSIBLE) INSERT THE EGGS IN QUESTION INTO THE WATER--- AGAIN ALLOW THE WATER TO SETTLE FOR A MINUTE OR SO AND OBSERVE EACH EGG---- IF IT SINKS ITS A DUD! IF IT FLOATS WAY UP HIGH ITS A DUD! IF IT FLOATS WITH JUST THE TIP OF THE BIG END OUT OF THE WATER ITS VIABLE----WATCH THE VIABLE EGGS CLOSELY IF THEY WIGGLE OR MOVE SIDE TO SIDE THEN JR'S ENJOYING HIS 1ST BATH! THIS IS POSITIVE SIGNS OF LIFE!

I GENTLY DRY OFF THE WIGGLERS AND GIVE THEM ANOTHER 48 HRS IN THE HATCHER. THE REST GET THROWN AT THE NIEGHBORS INCESSANTLY BARKING DOG.... WITH A SLING SHOT

Thankyou very much sir, that is great info to know.
I can picture it perfectly in my head from your decription.

I have some coturnix due to hatch on monday, I might try this with any unhatched eggs.

I think I knew about this already, but thought it was for testing eatin eggs that were out too long . . .
So the immersion in water wont hurt a unhatched chick, huh?
This is really good to know.

And "only keep the wigglers", that is the most straightforward answer I could ever ask for, thankyou.

I think on my last hatch of coturnix, I got so many in-egg deaths from too high humidity in the beginning, the set I have going now I have run lower humidity and hopefully will get better results.

So you give a full day before doing a float test . . . perfect

Do you the "wigglers" end up hatching well, or not so well?

In my quail hatching experiences so far, I have not really had any unhatched eggs hatch late; I have had a set that had 2 main hatches a few hours apart, but never any unhatched making it out days later.
I been giving my unhatched eggs at least 2 days extra.

Love the float test plan! but I saw somewhere that some people will tap tap tap an egg with their finger to be certain the possible chick is awake to look for wiggliers...

I couldn't help myself and candled the chukar eggs last night... all but one had a small sguiggly line in the center of what looked to be the yolk, (like a vein) the other looked to be maybe a blood ring. We'll see! Hoping for the best!!
