No watch it carefully--I mean truly watch it for breathing. Sometimes it may seem dead but pokey played with my emotions for 2 days before she came out.. If you see it breath leave it alone and let her rest

Try to wait longer... sometimes the little chick rests and takes a nap in the midst of all that zipping and poking.
I know I had one take a Loooong time to come out last year.
Can you see if it's still moist inside? or do you see the membrane at all?

You mean it took two days after she started zipping? Oh, my! I'll be a nervous wreck. The membrane is starting to look dark on this one and there's no sign of breathing. The humidity is still in the regular range 65-70. The others came out wet...

I kind of think she may be positioned wrong. When she was trying to get out all you could see was toes, no beak...

Okay, I'm going to FAIL at patience .. I can tell. I think I need to just go away for a couple of days and come back to chicks.. Of course, I'll be at work for 8 hours during the day .. (and NOT sleeping at night) ..

What if I don't see breathing?

When I say watch it.. I mean take 5 good minutes and really watch for any breathing--if you see some leave it alone..If you see nothing then get a warm wet wrung washcloth-grab the egg and slowly break some SHELL off...slowly peel a very small piece of membrane back-to really get a good look inside..If she is breathing put her back. If you see any sign of blood put her back...

Ok, I went in. The chick is fully formed and looks perfect. But it's dead. I don't think it ever got it's head into position from the looks of things. The head was no where near the hole it had made. It was fully ready. There was no blood and I took the shell and membrane completely off once I saw that it was dead. So sad. A perfect little ee with eyeliner... What causes this? It was so vigorously struggling and then stopped suddenly. Could it have drowned if it's head was down?
