Thanks Donna. Yea it sucks. And of course it has to be something good, Should be out any day. I never had a red golden lay so many eggs . In a closed box first time for that too. Shes sitting on about 16 plus. Had a person come buy 20 mandie babies lets just say for a good price. Im gonna go buy some feed and other things I need. I got another pen 10x10x6 dog kennel for 40 bucks. My neighbor found it for me for free. I had to make him take the money. Its in perfect condition. I have to make a top out of chicken wire.(Im out of netting) plus thats what I use on several pens anyway. I dont know if wires better or netting. Ive had one greenwing get his head stuck in chickenwire and one pintail get hhung up in the netting. Luckily both times I was home to get them out. So the Jury is still out to which is better on smaller type pens.

Yes he does.. He was courting her the other day and was only maybe 5 ft from me and started that hissing noise.. I was looking everywhere for a snake in the pen! Took me a minute to figure out it was him... Pheasants that hiss and ducks (ring teal) that sound like cats!!

We should have wood duck babies any day now.... My Apricot Wood Duck Hen has been sitting relligious and I thought last weekend was it but couldn;t for sure remember.. it was either last or this weeked.. She has about 20 eggs under her! It should be interesting to catch her!

and I have 100 baby chickens that are going on lock down tomorrow and a few have already hatched.. guess they moms had sat some before

As long as a hen gets 14 days of setting on eggs you can go the rest of the distance in a bator. Wood ducks are the main ones that I want to see me first (out of the incubator)when they hatch instead of a hen or broody just because how its hard to get em to eat once you take them from the mom.

Thanks!! This first round we will be chasing.... I have chicken eggs and quail in the incubtors right now and having temp/humidity levels! I need to break down and buy a big new incubtor.

do you use an egg turner?

YesI do. But I hand turn also whenever I can. That way if I forget or cant get at it at the very least they get turned that way. Think about those turners they basically "rock" back and forth. Where as if you hand turn them and they are on their side they "roll" now if you can ALWAYS have the time and NEVER forget to hand turn them . This is why I like the "rock AND roll " method. All bases are covered totally.

Shawn, Re: in part of your post you were unsure about wire or netting being better? Well I for sure would Not know which is best, but I was wondering if you ever heard of or tried "Deer Fencing"? I don't know which is cheaper or better or if it would even work for you. Deer Fencing is just that...to keep deer out or in I guess. We have it to help keep things out of our plants but its about 6 feet tall I believe & its black, a fairly thick plastic type of thing and the holes in it aren't really round holes they are little squares. My 6 week old ducky Can't put her head through & get stuck. Its not heavy but seems real durable. I'm also gonna soon be using it to fence in an area for some chickens & their new coop.(and to keep unwanted pests out. I made a small fence/divider using deer fencing to keep the Rouen Bully drake away from the Golden Cascade, needless to say when the Rouen stood on the Ramp to he pool he thought he would be able to still fly over but instead he very lightly flew into the top part of the fencing & landed on the ground on his feet.{he didn't hit the fencing or ground hard at all}. I can take a picture of the fencing I'm talking about and get a price if you want. like I said though I don't have a clue if its something you could use or not. ~Julie~
