I can see both of us now in their after we drain the pool sometime this summer. We were going to clean it for the first time before our last big snow because it was 50+ that saturday but we decided reinforcing the net with more poles was a better idea! Now it looks like it might be after breeding season before we drain it because I don't want to distrube them. Our pool is 2-3 ft deep and I would say art least 4500sqft of surface water...

On the Floating nest... how would you make them stationary in the ponds? of course I can only see us being able to put 3 in there. One on each end and one in the canal!

Thanks fort he estimate on the amoutn of babies.. I know there is alot of factors that take into play I just didn't want to plan for 50 and end up with 200-300 and no where to put them!

Thanks! Pine is what I was thinking and my dad just looks at me like I am nuts. I can't put any cedar in teh pen because it is toxic to the Quail.. I learned that one the hard way!!

every time I drive by someones house who has branches out by the street I almost pull over.. If I had a pickup truck I so would!

You can anchor them with 2 cinder blocks tied with rope. And unless Im missing some thing with your huge pond you could have at least ten floating islands and not even dent the water surface. If you want lots of babies you need to have your avairy like a forest (Im not kidding) This is the time of year you should put stuff everywhere. This is the main thing I wish someone would have told years ago for breeding success

It would break their heart to move.. Eventually I will be building them their own but for now they mainly stay in one corner or on the edge.. We have plenty of pine trees to go around here though.. lol!
