So I ordered some chicks from Purely poultry (suppose to be 8 gold laced Sebrights and 8 silver laved Sebrights) and they arrived today after 3 days in the mail, first observations the box was a bit squished, cant blame purely poultry for that though. when I opened it I found one DOA, it was stiff so died at least a little while ago, also another one that looked like it was close to dyeing.
I got them out and into the brooder dipped their beaks in the water (which had probiotics and electrolytes in it) and tried reviving the one that looked almost dead, it ended up dyeing in my hands. Mean while most of the 8 gold laced were lethargic, the other "silver laced" were active and energetic. then out of the blue one started panting really badly so I tried getting it some more water and shortly after that It died, and stiff almost immediately.
so now 3 dead chicks (all 3 are gold laced Sebrights). got most up and moving now but still sleepy the 2 most lethargic I am able to get to drink water and they occasionally peck around for food when I get them up. (I also just gave them some pure sugar water)
and while I am sitting there I am also wondering why these "silver laced Sebrights" had a chipmunk pattern on them. so I look at the label and it says they shipped me silver duckwing old english game bantams, which I have no use for since I wanted to start breeding Sebrights. They didn't inform me of any substitutions nor did I ever say I was willing to accept substitutions. I am currently waiting on an email back from them to see what they can do to make this up to me.
So to say the least I am very disappointed in purely poultry. and I may never order chicks from them again. snippet from order history:

So now 2 of the OEGBs died this morning (one in my hands as I tried to save it) out of nowhere, I am really confused as to why they keep dying out of nowhere, I have them set up in 95 degrees w/ vitamins electrolytes and probiotics in water, gave a yolk yesterday that most devoured right away, they had plenty of food sprinkled around them plus a dish of food, they were drinking just fine, yesterday I checked on them like every 15 minutes. And every 2 hours overnight. The one that died in my hands was so limp i dipped her beak in the water and she drank but after that she just layed in my hands gasping and flailing her head around a bit, nothing stuck in her crop. Then she eventually just gave out.

I am now up to 9 dead out of an order of 16 and only 2 of the 7 left are what I actually ordered, at this point I feel like I should get a full refund because all the chicks seem to be getting lethargic. The one that died today was up and eating and drinking with the rest all day yesterday until lastnight, then all of a sudden she could barely stand, and just slept all the time. And the one before her I nursed back to health it was looking better then it slept all day yesterday and eventually died.

So sorry, that's just awful! I wonder if your order didn't get mixed up with someone else's order as far as the Silver Seabrights vs Duckwing OE goes, there's probably someone asking why they got silver seabights instead of their OE!

I've never dealt with Purely Poultry, what is their garauntee on live birds? I ordered from Meyer Hatchery this year and they have a 100% live guarantee, so when I received 1 DOA, they refunded me my money for that chick. They also didn't send any extras, which kind of disappointed me since I see so many other people DO get extras sent, but is understandable since they do sell chicks for a profit and can't just send out spares "just in case".

Did you have them vaccinated? Could it be Coccidiosis? If/when you order more chicks, I'd definitely go with another hatchery though.

I'm sorry that happened. I am very interested to know how they make this up to you.

My order from Ideal Poultry arrived fine, with the numbers I ordered in breed. Still waiting to see if the genders are correct but they are healthy and came on time. I know they sell the breed you wanted, not sure if they are still available for the year.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

My guess is they saw silver just assumed silver duckwing oegbs. And cocci is what I thought it could be though being only a few days old its apparently unlikely because cocci takes awhile to take hold from what I hear. Their policy is a 48 hour live guarantee some died after 48 hourd, but I feel like they must have sent weak chicks for this many to die.
