My First Ducks Ever Are Hatching!

I'll try and get pictures. I'm also going to try harder to get it to eat and drink as it hasn't had any interest so far.

The others are little stinkers though!

A little cool water was a big hit today with the heat!

The little dark one sure is winning me over. It's the neediest one, always wanting picked up and held.

Marshmallow didn't know what to think at first! She really just wanted a snack and some water. She's my lowest ranking hen and she has no rights in the hen house lol. So she is often foraging alone. She's well behaved though and I trust her. The babies ran all around her eating and drinking but they eyed her carefully the whole time. She even shared the food right next to them.

Before too long it was time for a nap! ( the little dark one is stuffed down my elbow and barely visible )

I got the little to drink but it won't eat yet. The picture isn't very good but it gets very stressed and easily chilled. I'm worried about messing with it too much.

It doesn't seem to be an open wound but it's weird and flattened. When I hold it I can feel it resting on my hand with enough pressure that if it's not walking, I know it can't feel good to drag over shavings. I put towels in for it instead. The chick also seems to have a runny nose.

So cute having them all outside! I wish, I had mine when the weather was warmer, but mine hatched early March and it was bitterly cold some of those days. Love the hen coming over too!
As far as your baby, I am not sure.
Let me see if I can find someone who can help.

Ok, so my friend is not on at the moment, but I showed her the photo. She says that is where the umbilical cord is and your duckling is still absorbing the yolk. The spot should go away in a day or two. :)

It's acting relatively normal. But it does have watery fluid coming from the nares and it still isn't walking. It's little feet are kind of still shriveled.

Give it some time. I have read other hatching threads where time really helped. If not, there could be something genetically wrong with it. Hatching is hard work.

What feed are they on? You've probably answered already and I apologize if you are having to repeat yourself.
