My First Egg Is "Hard Boiled"!?!?

Tell hubby you went online and bought a 'test kit' to make sure it is safe to eat the eggs. Tell him it cost $688.99 and you put it on the credit card, but it will be worth spending the money for 'peace of mind'.

And I am sorry we went to far and hurt your feelings.

I have two nests for 3.25 birds (1 chukar) and observe their behavior DAILY via webcam while I work. Most of the time there is plenty of space available. Sometimes there is slight congestion where they are waiting for an opening or a certain nest to become available. It's so funny because you know they're cooking up an egg by the way they just stand there, watching. One day I watched all birds double occupancy... some lay faster than others... some just will not take this kind of invasion of personal space and will reschedule at a later time even though they were there first. At first I thought there was a favorite nest, but it seems to have more to do with which way the wind blows.

Yes, definitely make sure your roosts are higher, and if they are, is it enclosed/dark enough?

Do they free range in your yard or are they in an enclosed space? If they are in a run, you could get one of those motion sensor water sprayers and hide it where DH would have to pass it to get to the run door/gate. That way if he snuck out there while you were in the shower or something......wet DH. Too bad he's not putting them in the coop, you could rig a bucket on top of the door with something in it.
