If you can pick them up you can feel the pin bones down in the fluffy part of their backsides. The ones that are laying will be more spread apart than the non layers. As for egg size and color, the eggs will get bigger as they get older and more set into their laying cycle. The eggs will change color often though. Hens only lay one egg per day at the most so you may have two laying.
Someone asked about color of eggs on barred rocks... Barred Rocks can lay any color of eggs.
