My first ever weeks' old chicks!

Here's an update on a few of them, these three we have named so far...the others are not quite there yet!

Here are a few of "Gimpy" our definite suspected roo, which were even more certain is a roo now!

Here is Ginger, one we thought to be a pullet, still pretty sure is but we'll see a bit later on if that's correct or not...

This one is Maggie, she's still warming up to us more slowly than the other two, but were hoping all our chicks will be ok to be held when their older (our current ones DO NOT appreciate being picked up) Hopefully this one does turn out to be a pullet too!

Anyone know how to tell the eggshell colour that the chicks are more likely to lay? I heard from someone that their "ear" colour tells you...but not really sure where the "ear" colour would be?

I'll post more pictures of the other ones when I get them :) hopefully they'll have names by then!

That's all I know! I'll post more pictures of the other ones when I get them :) hopefully they'll have names by then! :ya Ok!

Thanks for the feedback Jetblack2004!

I'm pretty excited that when we got them I seem to have guessed pretty accurately

hopefully when i post the other photos of the other ones, it'll be the same!

Though there is still a young one who we won't know about until their older, it's just about 3 weeks at most, starting to get it's real feathering in. Mostly got it's wings, some chest area and starting to get where the saddle feathers grow, grow. I'm really not sure about that one!

Here are the pictures of my youngest one, not really sure what to guess but i'm thinking roo perhaps...it's a little feisty one definitely able to keep up with some of the older ones.

Here are pictures of one of our Maran X's that i believe might be a pullet now...though when we first got this one I thought maybe it could be a roo too? The only thing that makes me think that is that this one has a slightly larger comb than the other 3 as well as not as much feather growth yet in the tail. Not sure if the colouring would be considered right for a Maran either, my understanding is no because of the copper being all over vs. just the neck portion.

I think it might be a roo as well but its hard to tell. She/He is a very beautiful colour though!

Thanks JetBlack2004,

I'll see if i can get the other three in pictures too at some point to compare them with the other Maran X. The one i just posted is a little bit smaller than the other two as well, not sure if that counts for anything or if they may just be a week or so apart perhaps or even just that it is a smaller chicken than the others.

The youngest one I'm definitely suspicious of to be a roo! We'll see a bit more in a couple weeks or so with that. Gimpy was very much easy to see as a roo so these other two are being a little more elusive and challenging, which is fun!

Is it possible to have a flock with more than one roo or am i going to have to find the others' a home if they turn out to be roos?

Thanks for the feedback!
