My First Hatch-A-Long

I'm going to take a picture as soon as I get them in the brooder eating and drinking. Going to get a temp check first then put some feed out on some paper towels to start then add the feeders. Once that is done I'll put a new piece of 1/2" hardware cloth on a 1" x 3" frame to support the feeders and water fountains so they will not doctor them up with shavings. They need water not wood shaving tea.

While we were working in the garden yesterday afternoon I looked up to see Goliath's mom standing on the edge of the pavement looking at the cows across the road. At least she turned around and came back to us when she was called back. I don't want to do it but it is coming down to giving them nice protective runs instead of free range time except a half hour or so before roost time. It's for their own good.

The two White Jersey Giant chicks are feathering out really fast. Within a very few days we will have the netting over the brooder to keep these tiny terrors inside their enclosure. I see some of them craning their necks already curious what is on the other side of their domicile wall.
