Thanks to someone who told me to put a wet washcloth into my incubator to keep the humidity high. My hen hatched out two of seven eggs and then abandoned the eggs so I put them in this incubator, since I felt I had nothing to lose. Another person told me that I can pick up an egg up to seven days old and put it in an incubator. I didn't "candle" them before I put them in and I don't want to touch them now that they're in the incubator. Even if this one life is the only one produced, it was worth the thrill. I was so sure nothing would happen that I put the incubator on the ground in the kitchen. This morning I heard a chirping and thought there was a bird in the garage. Then I saw the cats (in a cat rescue), scratching at the incubator and looked inside. A chick! It was already dry and fluffy and moving around. It was non-stop talking. I got a metal bin, put straw in it and a red light and set it up in my bathroom (away from rescue cats), and then took the chick out and put it into the bin. It's trying to fly out. I put in a lid from a canning jar and put chick starter mixed with water, and I checked it for "poopy butt." I'll continue to check for that. Well, that's the extent of my knowledge. I'll be announcing this on our blog site (www.animalrescuefoundation.blog). THANK YOU for this site. I didn't know what to do when I saw a chick in the incubator so I immediately went to your site to search for information - and found it. Thanks for letting me share....
