The future siblings were laid yesterday and the day before. All of the new buff orps in Reds pen have begun to lay. Woot!

I am getting an egg from each one every day.

Some of the chicks that hatch from the next cross should be red. It usually takes a back cross or two to get what you want. I would not worry about the dark head color. It will disappear as the birds get older. I do like the black head look. There is a, North European, chicken breed called an owl beard that is bred to have a black head on a white body.

The birds you have are quit handsome- I like the bright buff color. Just keep picking out females and back crossing to the red male. You have a few genes to weed out to get the red color in the male.
