I train my babies to nipples but give them a baby waterer with marbles in it for the first few days. Once I see they are using the nipples I pull the other waterer.

As you probably read above I should’ve done my research... I was also considering nipples (seems cleaner)

Hazel is so beautiful. I let her out this morning when I was hanging washing out and she stayed with me the whole time. I then finished and she wanted a cuddle. So she got a big cuddle and some pats. Shes free ranging now and I have left the chicks coop open at the front so Hazel can see them if she wants to.

Update on the Black Australorp chick:
He keeps making a noise every time he needs to do to the toilet. And the poop is now runny.
The temperature isn't too hot or cold. And im noticing his stopped eating.

I use vertical nipples, they are good for a closed system that stays clean. Sometimes they'll get stuck open and make a mess. I understand that a lot of folks prefer the horizontal nipples as they don't have that problem. Out on pasture I keep the babies in a tractor until they're big enough to blend in with the flock. My tractors have a bell waterer which works really well. Once they are in the pasture, I use big bowls and kidy pools because they knock anything I hang over. As for your little guy, check his hind in and make sure the vent is clean and clear. If need be offer some meal worms and food by hand. Not eating is a bad sign.

Update on the Black Australorp chick:
Its 9:30pm I just checked him and he is asleep and is still breathing. He keeps chirping every now and again loudly.

Aww I’m sure his vent/bum is kinda hurting because of all the poo that was stuck to it (not your fault; pasty but is very common in chicks)

I checked my other chicks over and they look good at the moment. No issues. Cleaned their brooder out after I removed the infected chick. Ive been checking on them all day. They don't seem to be lethargic or anything like that.
