I have a friend who's trying to get her parents to get her 2 pet ducks. I recommended Cayuga, Pekin and Call ducks. What else do you guys recommend? She also would like to know how to convince them to get the ducks.

First of all, has she researched them? If she hasn’t then she’s not ready. When I say research, I mean tons of research. Not just a quick couple of google searches.
They are extremely messy and their water will need cleaning everyday. They need water deep enough to dip their whole faces in it. They need a large coop and space to run and require a lot of cleaning. They’re probably the most messy animal I’ve ever owned.

What will she keep the ducks in? Will she clean the mess everyday? Does she have enough room? Does she have time to spend with them? Does she have the money to care for them?

There’s a lot more than ducks than just convincing someone to get them.

My Cayuga Baby.

Hmmm I only have Muscovies and mine definitely aren't ugly :)
The females tend to be less ugly than the males because they don't get as much red caruncle on their face. Let me just say if she wants them purely as pets, Pekins probably are not the best option. They are bred for meat so they are very heavy, and it also causes a lot of leg and foot problems for them, meaning the vet bills will probably be higher than other breeds of ducks.

If she isn't interested enough to do her own research, she has no business owning pets of ANY kind. They're not cute stuffed animals. They're living, breathing beings that deserve a safe, healthy life with a responsible pet owner.
She watches YouTube videos and asks ME for advice as someone who owns ducks myself which I think is starting to get pretty annoying so now I sorta just ignore her when she brings up keeping ducks as pets. She also asks me how to make coops and her mom is worried that ducks can't survive the cold which is NOT true at all. Her parents have never had any experience with owning farm animals too so yeah. I'm just gonna tell her to do her own research and find a pet that is suitable for her and tell her to stop asking ME for advice for pets. If she talks about getting a duck or chicken as a pet ONE more time I'm gonna go ballistic lol.
