my future coop was almost purchased!

My mom and I went shed shopping for sheds we could convert into a chicken/pheasant coop. We are going to by an 8'x12' shed and put the runs on both sides with a divider in the middle; 1 half for chickens 1 half for pheasant. It is "only" $1,400

We paid $300 for our 8X8 Gambrel shed kit and we did have to build the floor but that was super easy.
We bought two, one for the ducks, one for the chickens. The entire thing, two sheds, super strong floors, laminate flooring for both sheds, handles for doors, and all the materials to make two 8X8 runs plus renting a uhaul to pick it all up in cost us under $1200 and we are in RI where things are pretty expensive. We bought all of our stuff at Grossmans Bargain Outlet, Home Depot sells the EXACT shed kit for $600 each here. Grossmans has a website, google it, you might be able to find something like it near you.

I can't agree with you here, BettyR. That all depends on how you go about building your coop. I called around and found all sorts of crate wood for my coop. You'd be surprised at how nice a lot of that wood is! I have an 8 X 12 coop and is only cost me $250 to build. I looked around for roofing and found a builder that donated the shingles. Once I get my run up and my coop stained (we decided to stain it instead of paint it) I will have no more than $450 invested in a large run and coop. Here's a pic of what we built.

The siding is all crate wood too!

Go to Farm and Fleat or Fleet Farm get what you need. I got a huge Guniea pig cage for 40$ when other places were selling it for, you ready 250$ and it has jumbobags or bedding, food, waters, and feeders.

You should've built one!

We are in the process of building one, we've had a hard time with finishing it due to the fact that our main helper just lost his 30 yr old son... so it's been really rough for him, he's a close family friend.
But we've had other people show up helping with it, we just really need help with putting the shingles on the roof and finishing the roof... I think we can handle the siding and finishing the inside though.

Mine is 28 ft long! Yeah it's pretty darn nice. I guess with all the supplies and such put together I think by the time we're done there will have been about $2,000 put into it.

If you haven't yet, check around on freecycle and craigslist to see if anyone has some posted free or cheap that they just want moved. (Will require lots of help and a trailer or truck to move it, of course.)

Also, our local dump has a place where people throw away wood, pallets, etc. One could make an entire coop free this way aside from the nails, etc.

We found a clearance shed (8x10) at Meijer ...... marked down from $1,100. to $375 as it was falling apart (they did a real bang-up job assembling it

) and we offered them $150 and they sold it to us for $220
