May have some muscle damage, can you put him and the others in an area where they can get out of the weather and have shelter too so he isn't having to move around a lot.? I know it would be hard for me to have my goose inside without the other so maybe putting them into a small area where they can hang out but your gander isn't having to exert too much energy right now and given time to complete healing. With extreme temps it does take a lot of energy just to maintain normally and he's trying to heal.So its been 3 days since I put my gander outside and he is still limping? I'm not sure what to do for him there. His wounds are still healing the rest of the way but no blood and they aren't picking on him. He has been without a wrap on for 2 days now. Do think just because of where his wound is on his leg that its still painful enough to make him limp. I feel bad for him and don't really want to bring him back in again. He was very lonely last time. That and I don't have much room for him. I didn't before either but he was bleeding and I really had no choice. Right now I've got 4 ducklings and an adult duck in the house. I wonder if the cold on the wound just makes it hurt more? Its been very cold here in upstate NY. Yesterday it was in the negatives with the wind chill. I check his wounds everyday. Maybe I should go back to the wraps? I haven't been putting any neosporin on it since I've taken the wrap off because I don't want the pine shavings sticking to it or it freezing. Not sure if it can freeze but I dont really want to try and find out either.
Me too, keep us updated on his progress and Have a happy Thanksgiving. Thanks you two for the feedback. Not sure why my notification didn't pop up that someone had responded to the thread but all well. Miss Lydia him and his 2 geese friends along with their 13 duck friends are all in the same 10'x10' building with a 5'x15' fenced pen off the front of the duck house. So really not too much room. I'd say roughly like 10sq ft per duck/goose. Plus I store bags of bedding in storage containers in the duck house so it isn't quite the full 10'x10' oh and there is a dog house in the fenced pen too. They are no longer free ranging since this happened. Starting tomorrow its supposed to get really cold again and go back to the negatives so they won't have access to outside them few days. I'm hoping its nothing too serious and its just him trying to keep warm and heal.
Glad he´s on the mend. Depending on the damage,(muscle/ tendon) he may stay with a limp. But no matter if he´s recovered otherwise.Well he no longer has any dried blood but still has a small limp. He's actually the only goose whose not in the dog house right now. His other flock mates attacked cheese my Pekin duck. So I am taking care of her at this moment. Poor girl. But uncle waldo is doing better. Hopefully with this warmer weather and the snow being gone it will heal up better.
