JoeBryant, sigh...

My two bits: Jealousy is poison to a relationship. It is the mark of an insecure and controlling person. You do not want that, dearie! Hang in there.

Firehog,

If she dosent care about the things that are important to you its best that you guys split now. You need to find someone that wants/likes the same things that you like, or at least tolerates the things that you like.
Let this be a lesson to you for the future..NEVER let someone try to change you and take away the things that you enjoy in life. Those type people are sick, needy, greedy, selfish people. Just stay away from them and find someone that accepts you totally..chickens and all. Good luck.

LOL... that's hilarious! She should have been bugging you about when you're getting baby chicks and asking about helping to hatch some so that she could hold some cute fuzzies. Or she should have been prepared to come home early, stay the night, make you some scrambled eggs in the morning!

Take that as the first sign of some more serious issues if she wouldn't have split. Always stick to your guns in any relationship, within reason of course, of anything that's important to you. That's how you test the character and compatability of the person you're with. Women who throw hissy-fits over hobbies, friends, pets... they're controlling, jealous, and just down right awful to be with long term. Go for low-maintance and drama free!

Find a girl that would enjoy a picnic dinner outside with the chickens. Definately a keeper if it was her idea!

Firehog -- I'm available, and I've cut off dinners and phone calls with my friends to go shut the chicken door more than once XD

As has been said 100 times already, she's not for you. Everyone should make concessions for their significant other, but those concessions can't include risking a life, animal or human. Not being interested in them is OK; not allowing you to take care of their welfare is not.

Look on the bright side! Your girlfriend didn't "dump" you, you "culled" her. Now make sure she knows it AND make sure she knows that it was the easiest culling decision you've ever had to make.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Just be glad the you found out that she was self centered early on. There are plenty of better women out there.

BTW - about the chicken age thing, I had a pair that was killed by dogs that were 7 - 9 years old, and I know a lady that had a pet hen live to 19. It depends on the breed and the individual.

My husband is so mad at me over my chickens that he wants to divorce me over them. I have had them since June and he has not even looked at them. Its kinda crazy but we are seeing a marriage counselor over my chickens. OMG!!!!! We have been married 16 years and he still just doesnt get it. Oh well I will keep my chickens lol
