MY GREEN BOYS (PICS)

In New York, yes. I do have one Burmese Green peacock for sale, but he is not pure, just like most greens in the U.S. other than the handful of birds that are imports or out of imports.

Yes so true not many green peafowl in the US are pure. Many are Spaldings or they are mixes of several green peafowl subspecies.

Green peafowl are not as cold hardy. They are a bit more of a tropical bird so if you get cold weather they need an indoor area for the winter and sometimes if you live in a very cold area they might need indoor heating or heated roosts. In the warm months they can be let out. The reason they need heat is if you do not provide heat for them they will get frostbite on their feet. Here is a photo example of what can happen to their feet in the cold: http://photos.zoochat.com/large/dsc02516-139058.jpg This picture disgusts me because this is a bird at a zoo. Of all people to correctly take care of their animals you think a zoo would have some of the best care especially since green peafowl are endangered. Although who knows they could have adopted him to save him, but whatever the case this is why you want heat in the winter.

I know this is a little older thread but I want to keep all my photos of my two peacocks together all in one place to make it easier. Here is a few more

Finally if you are interested in the idea that there are more than just three subspecies of greens check out this article about the several subspecies and if you click on the blue header of each subspecies it takes you to a page showing lots of photos of each one.

This article suggests (to me anyway) that distinction can be made by DNA

Thanks yall. Here is the update on getting a woman or women for my males. I have already paid for the one 3-4 year old proven breeder in full with insurance to a nice older person in Ohio thats cutting way back on his birds. So I am waiting on that call anyday now to get her here. Im not rushing him because the cooler the better for shipping her. But when I do recieve her Ill post the pics here of course.

I also called Josh at B&B to save me a girl from any he would have as well for my backup plan. That was quite a while back in the spring when all were just chicks or eggs even just to be sure I would be first in line for one. He said he would know later this fall which are females if any. Ill probably see him fall day and see how that turned out wether I get to pick one up that fun but hectic day from them or not. It will be nice just to hang out with friends, eat and see all the birds. Either way I go up to Defuniak springs to get my feed and see family and friends now and again. So I also can pick her up later if he has one waiting for me . Its only about an hour away from me. On another note I hope Karen aint a bother for us.

It is definitely getting cooler out. I was just thinking that you should be getting your green peahen soon. You don't have any heat in the winter for your greens right? I was thinking they don't need heat in this area but I wanted to ask you if you give them a heat lamp or anything.

I am so excited for the Fall Farm Day! I keep looking at the calendar. I am anticipating this more than Thanksgiving! I was thinking about the Farm Day and wondering if I will be able to even talk to Josh on the Farm Day. I am sure he will be super busy. I tried visiting the BAB recently when we were coming back from a trip to see my grandparents but I forgot it was the weekend of the convention and when I called Josh to ask if we could see the birds he had just gotten home from the UPA Convention and he needed to be with his family. I always call at a bad time.

That is why I need to go to the Farm Day. Anyways I read the description of it on their website and it sounds really awesome! I can't wait to see the horses too. I love horses but I probably wouldn't be able to own one because they seem like they would be more trouble than fun with all the hoof trimming, feed costs, grooming, and you have to ride them a lot or else they will go wild again. Still, they are fun to look at, ride, and pet. I can't wait to see all the peafowl. I think I will take lots of photos of the aviaries there too to get some good ideas for new aviaries. I noticed they used a satellite dish or something like that for the top of one pen. I am sooo excited!

No ,no heat. I dont even have covers of any type in either pen. But I am going to build a shed for them in the big pen shortly and for the smaller pen I could put a canvas up because its next to a solid fence on the north side.. I guess I could hang a lamp with a 100watt bulb in there for a little warmth if it got to freezing. I will be curious if they use it when I make it. I hope they like it and roost in it . Especially when it is cold or raining. I might be seeing how they like tragopans for company this week. Havent decided where to put some of the new arrivals coming. I have cut way back on my birds of late so room isnt really a problem for me now. Im just going to keep some old favs and getting some Ive always wanted. Yeah Horses are hard on the pocket. My sons girlfriends family has some very nice horses. They told me I can go riding whenever I want to. Im sure you'll be able to talk to Josh. Cant be too busy the whole time. Everyones pretty laid back and easygoing .Myself incuded
