My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

I just love the EE/Sultan cross.. :love

Looks like I'm saving for a Brinsea then, as I work full week. Do they work well for both chicks and ducklings? I will investigate... "Oh my! No dear, I have no IDEA how that incubator got there...!"

LOL. There are other choices in incubators, at other price points. I just wanted to be sure my eggs were OK if I left for the weekend during incubation, and the money was worth it to me. I haven't regretted it.

Like Banti said, the capacity is smaller than other units - but how many chicks at a time do you need? I can stuff 28 in mine, which actually is too many for me.

Other people can fill up several cabinet incubators with hundreds of eggs and keep them running all season. My incubator definitely wouldn't work for them. Will you be breeding and selling?

Of the styrofoam bators, I hear good things about the Hovabator Genesis. Since you work, an auto-turner would be a really, really good idea.

Good luck on your search!

I've been skimming online at different ones. And don't think I would ever be puting any more than 20 at a time.

There are many people here locally who have expressed their dislike of having to obtain chicks from the hardware stores, so I may breed to sell. Not sure I want to go down that road though as I'm not really sure what great standard traits are for the chicks I have. Suppose I could breed to better a breed, so to speak.

... Also... I want to try my duckies out. See if I could get some widdle ducklings

Very much agree with FridayYet. Depends on your goals and situation. I had decent hatches from a cheap janoel-48 Chinese knockoff, until it went out on me (on day 18, no less!) but do NOT regret the investment into the Brinsea. And I have hatched ducks in it too! :D

Check out the IncuView at incubator warehouse also. I've been seeing good stuff with it, but no first hand knowledge of it.

And check your local sale papers, FB, CL, etc. I found mine used for a better price. Brinseas dont turn up often, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another used one.

I've been watching chick TV.... Fish tanks make great brooders... :frow

Uh oh. Maybe they are just late? :fl

Oh, forgot to say.... I hadn't been getting Jace eggs for a while... She was missing this morning, so I went looking for her... She was behind the feedbox with a clutch of 9 eggs.
She got up, but she might be gearing up to go broody.... I left the eggs. :fl
