My hen's eyes are swollen with bumps(pictures)? What should I do?

The fowl pox takes 3-4 weeks to run. If she does have it, and that is what it looks like to me, the others have already been exposed. So separating her at this point is a mute point.

I agree. Just make sure she gets plenty of good food and water. They look so miserable with it in the eyes.

And since it looks like wet pox, check inside the mouth and down the throat. If they are in there they can restrict or stop airflow. Not trying to freak you out, just giving you facts.

SO does that mean that all the other chicken will have what she is having too? because she has been cage with one other hen and the other hen looks normal to me. Will she be able to eat or will her eyes be completely shut and I have to force feed her? Will she survive? She is such a small hen, smaller than a bantam hen.

No, it is an avian disease. Some birds will get it and show symptoms worse than others and some show only a few. With my dry pox in my coop, some had bad black scabs and some just had one or two. All you can do is watch and intervene if needed. Weigh her if you can and weigh each day at the same time. If there is a good drop in weight, you may need to help with feeding.

That does not look like fowl pox to me. The eyes should not swell up like that! With the dry fowl pox you will see lots of black spots on the comb and face, and the chicken will stop laying eggs. The chicken will still eat and drink and act virtually normally. They usually recover quickly and easily from this form.

The wet fowl pox the chicken will have a lot of trouble breathing and it will be acting very sick. They often die with the wet pox virus.

Can you get you chicken to a vet?

THey don't all get the swollen eyes with it. Each time only one of mine has gotten the eye issue and both were silkies (odd). THere are different strains of dry and they seem to carry different symptoms or, else, the birds react with different symptoms. I am not sure which but the pox does do this. Most all of mine carried on well. It has only been one or two that seemed to suffer more. I have been lucky to not lose any but I think that is only because I caught the fact that they had stopped eating soon enough,

her eyelids are not completely shut, she still search for food and eats blindly but I have been monitoring her and making sure she has food in her crop for digestion. She seems active and is alert but now frequently I have been seeing her with her head tuck back as if she is sleeping a lot.
