Realistically your neighbor will be able to hear your hens as well as any roosters. I don't know what your ordinances are, but if chickens aren't legal or if there's noise restrictions, they'd likely hear them even if it's all girls.

I think you misunderstood what I said, I don't care about the (dB) loudness of his crow, and yes the type of crow itself has some heritability, however, the frequent crowing or time of day that a rooster crows is not a heritable trait.People have bred longcrowers, so I assume it's genetic. My flock is completely free-range and they hang out around my house all the time so I've been breeding quiet roosters only for years. They're definitely much more quiet in both volume and frequency than when I started
No, that's incorrect. Temperament is affected by genetics and has heritability. (Personal)ity is developed through ones environment and experiences, this is not genetic.Personality is affected by genetics
Haha great point.Do the neighbors have a dog. Does the dog bark? If so, do they care that you can hear it?
this is... a good point that i didn't even think about in terms of keeping roosters lolDo the neighbors have a dog. Does the dog bark? If so, do they care that you can hear it?
Disagree. Every Ameraucana roo I've had is obnoxious and crows all the time, and every Sumatra roo barely crows at all. It's obviously geneticThe frequent crowing or time of day that a rooster crows is not a heritable trait.
They can totally hear but it may or may not bother them. Better just to casually bring it up in conversation and to order rooster collars. The ones you buy on Amazon are too narrow. So plan on either 2 per rooster. And having to readjust as needed. Or just find out if they bug your neighbor. If they don’t.. just leave them be.I bought 6 chickens at Tractor Supplies. I think they said it's all female, but somehow I got 2 roosters and 4 hens.
I'm actually happy with the combination. The roosters try to protect the hens and they get along well.
We live in a single family house and it's 1 acre. We have only one neighbor and the chicken is located the furthest in my backyard from the neighbor's house. My neighbor's house is also about 1 acre and their house is located in the center of this acre.
I keep the chicken house door closed and release them at 6am, so the roosters usually crow in the house, but I can still hear them cloud and clear enough to wake me up! (and I love it!) My bedroom is the closest to their house, though.
Do you think my neighbor can hear them and can be bothered? or Do you think it's not so bad so they wouldn't care?
I did not hear any complaints but I don't want to feel guilty every morning if it's not the case. And, I also don't want to bring this up to my neighbor until they mention. Can anyone share your experiences if you're in a smiliar situation?
Thanks!
LOL my neighbors can hear my roosters and we all also live on an acre each lot. I can hear my other neighbor's roosters from over the hill and also down the street. Next door neighbor told me at first hearing the rooster was bothersome, but she got used to it over time. She misses it now that a dog killed my rooster who was protecting his ladies. We have a young rooster who is developing but he's not crowing just yet. There are crowing collars you can put on your roosters which stops the crowing process. I wouldn't use them unless it really was a source of irritation for my neighbors. You might also want to ask your neighbors if your roosters bother them. If you are not violating local ordinances by owning chickens I don't think any neighbors can tell you that you can not have chickens. We have chickens, geese and turkeys. I'm fortunate my local ordinances do not prevent me from having my bird babies. I love the birds. They are family to me.I bought 6 chickens at Tractor Supplies.
