My Husband is an Enabler who Deserves a Gold Medal.

My question to all you "girls" above me..........How do I get a wife like one of you? 'Cause the one I have is worthless as "crowing hen"!! I do all the chickens, 70 plus now I think, plus 11 guineas, all the outside work, clean the bathrooms, do the laundry, 90 percent of the cooking and tend to our two oldest kids, 19 and 13. I pay her a check to stay home so our little one, 6, doesn't have to be a latch key child. Besides vacuuming and dusting and doating over the little one, she's done. As a Hubby what can I do to get her to appreciate the chickens? (or me for that matter?)LOL Any chicken loving secrets I need to know??

My DH would deny me nothing if there is anyway he can get it for me or let me have it....he is even better when he sees a "benefit" in it such as the eggs, the meat, etc.

My DH is the same way. I posted on this thread once all ready. But I had to post again when I read that. Last night my DH called from work and asked what I was doing, I said "looking at baby goats."

He said "no goats".

"I know there is no way you would eat a goat or drink it's milk. It would be like another dog"!

Then he said, "hon, you just got chickens and ducks, can we at least let them settle in first?"

LOL! I wasn't even trying to get a goat!

Don't shortchange the vacuuming, dusting, and doting any more than you'd like to be shortchanged, but I would be at my breaking point with everything you're taking care of.

Lucky you Floridachick. Although my situation isn't all bad.

I can only have 4 chickens in my neighborhood. I slowly convinced hubby 2 wouldn't be bad, then in December we rescued a little hen from Long Island. Again he was patient with me.

After the new coop and run was built (by a friend of ours) he said "wow, that's nice how about we find that 4th one?

All I can say is, I'm pretty happy now. But if we ever move and get more property like you lucky people have, well, that's a whole different story.

I'M the enabler for my wife. It was her idea (she's been talking about it for years), but I've done all the building, research, ffeding, cleaning, etc. It's really been fun, and she's the one who finally pushed hard enough that we both got into it.

She deserves the credit.

Enabler, that's a great word. That is the very thing I am. Guess it was the way I was raised. "Do unto others as you would want done to you"

Actually I do have 1 charolais cow named Nosey and a Buffalo Cow named Buela. At one time 7 years ago I had over 300 head of Brahma cattle. But as a business owner I had to decide where my living was coming from, my wallet or my heart. So I sold the herd. With the way the economy is now I see the "old" ways coming back!!! Sure wish I'd followed my heart!!! I see a large garden and more livestock coming back into my life as I believe we need to become more self reliant. Born and raised on the farm, I have the knowledge and skills, just need the backbone I used to have. Funny how that changes as we get older!!LOL

LOL I'm not married and still live with my parents as I have student loans to pay off. Maybe I will find one of those great guys someday. For now my mother is my enabler. My father said we couldn't have ducks and my mother said go ahead. Well now my poor father spent a whole weekend building a chicken day run but it's turned into my duck's home for now. Poor daddy! I got really sick and ended up losing my job but he's been great and not said to much about me not finding a new job yet. I really need a new job though as my photography is not making that much money yet and I don't have the money to get better photography equipment. So my new job will pay for student loans, a better camera, and poultry. LOL Anyways...maybe there's a man out there as great as my father somewhere just looking for someone like me. LOL

I'm a lucky woman too. I have an enabler husband that loves me and also loves the kids and various animals.

He's a big sweetie...and I'll stop gushing now.

The chickens are a new addition to our menagerie. Every once in a while I'd mention the idea...he'd say "sure, I liked the chickens I had when we were kids" Then I'd go lay down till that idea went away...kinda like every time I get the urge to get a perm (bad idea for me)

Well then I found all you lovely enablers when I was researching chickens.

I was originally looking for a battery hen rescue in Canada. Long story short...we now have 14 5wk pullets in our 8 by 12 coop that my husband built (still needs insulation) and 10 more expected July 4th. Thats all the animals for us unless we move out to the farm. (I have 3 horses and 3 dogs and 3 girls too)

I think I'll have to play that "thinking of getting goats" joke on him though to see his reaction.
