My insurance and weightloss,,, the cost of Jenny Craig is ungodly!!

Since I accessed the Jenny Craig site through my insurance company they now have my contact info I guess. I got a lovely email today that expressed "concern" at my not "following through" on my earlier phone call and my comments concerning the cost of the program. They so kindly offered to give me a WHOLE month of free food IF I enrolled and during a 3 month period did not lose the weight I wanted to lose. Of course this would mean meeting a few times a week with the counselor, PAYING for those 3 months worth of expensive cardboard, having to keep a detailed diet journal with everything I dared to eat on it and who knows if those 3 cheeto's might have disqualified me. I replied very politely and declined the offer unless of course one of the rich celebrities they have would like to sponsor me and pay my way,, oh and of course maybe Valerie Bertinelli's personal trainer and dietician could help me out also?

I'll sign up too if they offer me that!

You would think they would have every day people as spokesperson's rather than rich movie stars who can afford their food. The average person can't afford them. It's definitely not the poor person's diet.

I have also noticed that about magazine eating plans...

Lunch:

Turkey tofu wrap with mango chutney and grilled peppers?

My daughter is having gastric bypass done and I'm worried sick for her. 5 years ago I lost 160 lbs on Weight Watchers. I had an accident 3 years ago that caused me to be immobile for more than a year and I gained almost all my weight back again.

I have to get on the ball and lose the weight again as I'm a diabetic and being 46 and almost 300 lbs is slowly killing me. Although I love the fact that I moved to Tennessee, one of my biggest drawbacks is where I live! In NY there were lots of places for me to walk. Here where I live you have to be a mountain climber to walk or else drive to somewhere so I can. It looks like that's what I'm going to have to do.

Walking is the best form of exercise for me at the current time so I use Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds video dvds. They're pretty good for someone that's as heavy as I am.

Loooove the Weight Watchers-I've lost 18 lbs in 7 weeks and I am so surprised at how easy it is! I thought for sure that counting points and tracking would be a major pain in the butt, but the results are worth it. I encourage anyone who needs to lose a few to try WW's simply because you do not have to buy special food! I have another 50 lbs to go and I am so sticking with this. Having tried to diet on my own for years, I've realized that I can't be too proud to accept help when there is help to be had. Also, one of my major inspirations to join WW's was watching a coworker lose 50 lbs in less than 5 months on it (she is a large woman) and it is all done in a healthy manner. They encourage healthy eating and learning/keeping good healthy eating guidelines. It really is not a diet and is about learning good habits and sticking with them and being aware of how much we really eat in actuality. It is quite astonishing! Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you. I think all this buying someone else's food is actually kind of a bad thing, what happens when you've lost the weight and start eating "real" food again? I think most people probably gain it all back and then some, besides that-who can afford it?!!

I was going to try weight watchers but went to a "free meeting" and got to hear 5 minutes of roll call and then they kicked everyone who wasn't a member out to start the actual meeting. I looked at the books they have to count points online and they were expensive even on Ebay. It sounds good though.

Nancy I am VERY physically active there isn't much more I can add to what I already do. I'm not obese, I need to lose about 25 pounds though to feel better about myself. Part of my problem is when I went through menopause very unexpectedly at 37 in LESS THAN 4 MONTHS!! My entire system just died you might say and I went from a super fast metabolism to no metabolism and from being 108 (at 5ft 8in) to what I am now which was a weight gain of almost 70 pounds total over less than a year. I did take prescription drugs about 2 years ago and started losing weight but it also raised my blood pressure which is very low in the first place. I don't eat garbage, I'm not lazy, I don't sit around, I don't pig out, I don't snack, I eat very healthy and get a lot of excercise and it's very frustrating. The only thing I'm happy about is I haven't gained any more even though I haven't lost any more it just stays status quo.

Honestly, you are probably more healthy than you think you are. Plenty of overweight people eat right, exercise, stay away from junk and just remain overweight. I have a friend of mine who is 60 years old and about 40 lbs overweight. Her blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, heart rate, etc., are beyond perfect. It all happened after menopause too. The big M has more effects on a person than one might think.
