My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Oh Cyn, my heart hurts for you. I know that loss is part of the deal for us animal lovers, but it never gets any easier, does it? It takes a special soul to have the kind of relationship with your chickens that you have. You're such an inspiration, and so is little Ivy. I've been following her story for quite some time now, and am still in awe of her spunk and spirit in the face of such sickness. It's a testament to you, really - you've given her such a wonderful life that she just doesn't want to let go! And who could blame her? You take such good care of your girls and give them such great lives. I know Ivy's last moments will be gentle and full of love...from her sweet sister, from you, and from all of us that have been following her story. Hugs to both of you.

I can't express how much your love and support mean to me. Ivy has been such a presence here, a dignified lady with a calm, yet indomitable spirit. I've been privileged to know her in her relatively short life. She and Lexie gave me the love of Barred Rocks I have today. I have my little Holly and her brother, who are Fern's kids and Ivy's grandkids; they are also Lexie's grandchildren, since Lex is Dutch's mom. I may not hold every hen I have in high regard as I do these ladies, but the original group are all very special to me, and some just really touch you in ways you never imagined a chicken could.

I dreamt of Ivy tonight and awoke a couple hours ago to a feeling of loss. Has Ivy passed on Cyn? I guess the morning shall tell us.

My recently found fond memories of Ivy are all in this picture...the girl discovered the bestest new treat....grapes! She knew I had more and she wanted them.

She is alive, but today will be the day, one way or another, unless she has another magic trick she can pull off as she has in the past. She refused grapes this morning, a first. Lexie spent the night with her, but allowed herself to be removed to go out into the pen and poop and walk around. Lex is under the little overhang that DH made for the older ladies, all hunched up and looking depressed, so guess I'll put her back with Ivy in a bit.
