Here's a strange occurrence. Ginger, who has not laid an egg in one entire year, has been on the nest twice today. She even cackled for the first time since last June, but no egg. Either she is about to lay an egg and is having some trouble (who wouldn't after a year?) or, what is more likely, she is building up stuff in her oviduct and feels like she has an egg in there. She hasn't shown interest in any nest in all that time till yesterday when I caught her getting off one. I wasn't sure if she just got up there so she could look through the wall and out the door or she was sitting. Today, she was actually sitting for a long spell. We lubed her up with mineral oil, in case there is some atrophy in there and she's too dry along the channel--may not do any good and I may be thinking about it all wrong, but couldn't hurt.
