My Ivy.. Latest Relapse...She's Gone

Here's a strange occurrence. Ginger, who has not laid an egg in one entire year, has been on the nest twice today. She even cackled for the first time since last June, but no egg. Either she is about to lay an egg and is having some trouble (who wouldn't after a year?) or, what is more likely, she is building up stuff in her oviduct and feels like she has an egg in there. She hasn't shown interest in any nest in all that time till yesterday when I caught her getting off one. I wasn't sure if she just got up there so she could look through the wall and out the door or she was sitting. Today, she was actually sitting for a long spell. We lubed her up with mineral oil, in case there is some atrophy in there and she's too dry along the channel--may not do any good and I may be thinking about it all wrong, but couldn't hurt.

I started fans yesterday too Cyn. Almost need one on my 6 day old chicks. The heat is that bad.
Don't know if I mentioned it or not but I have an Ivy now too. She's a fiesty little naked neck (w/bowtie), black, named for your Ivy. She bit my little silkie yesterday when I put him back in the brooder. She thinks anything I put in the brooder is something for her to eat!
I'm trying and trying to get some good pics of her for you to see.

I remember the day I named her. She was about two weeks old and jumped up on a roost bar. I said to my DH, "She looks like an Ivy". And Ivy she is. Such a good girl, always has been. I'm glad I have her daughter and granddaughter.

Ah poor Ginger. *sigh*

This heat is unbelievable! My bigger girls were panting at 10 am. I have taken cold watermelon outside to them, hosed everyone off, have tons of water in the shade areas, fan going in the coop and a constant mist from the water hose going in the backyard.

I swear if this keeps us I am putting a wondow AC unit inside th coop, keeping it on low and keeping them inside. I am worried sick someone is going to go down from the heat.

Oh, I SO wish I could take some of that heat off of your hands for you there Cetawin. It's a chilly 58 right now with winds at around 10-20 mph.

If you could take half of my cold and trade me for half of your heat, everyone would be a lot happier! ........Wouldn't we?

I know I would be!

Cyn and I will get right on that....Cyn grab a couple boxes and I shall grab the credit card for shipping.

When Thor decides to splash around in the duck pool it is as hot as hades!

Great! I'll have Denny give me a hand first thing tomorrow morning and we'll bag up the coolest temperatures of the day. Forecast calls for a high of 59 and showers likely. Could I also interest you in some of the rain to go with that???

Oh darn! I was hoping to find a taker for the rain. I've just about had enough of it myself! I know come August (maybe!

) I'll be screaming for that rain. But for right now, yup, I've had enough. Stick a fork in my butt and turn me over, I think I'm DONE!
