Day 20

We now have 8 chicks hatched, with at least 5 more pips, but they aren't doing much right now. Is it possible for a chick to pip, make a little hole in the side of the egg, and then die? One seems to be awfully quiet, so I don't know what's going on inside right now. We have one little white chickie that is pecking on all the other ones INSIDE of the incubator. He seems like a real bully and he is the tiniest one in there!! Kristy

You might have to help ones out that the membrane is dryed out on, after pipping, make sure they have plenty of humidity in the bator.
Be careful you can tear their skin off.

Just remember its a learning curve. If you have more fertilized eggs start hatching another batch.

If you get 80% you have done good.

I had only one in 12 that didnt hatch.

My first batch was 36 out of 40

Okay checking in. 3 eggs never developed so they were tossed. 1 had a blood ring. Leaving me with 4 of the original 8 Gold lace cochins.

Right now is Day 20 and I have 2 pips!!! I'm so darn excited I can barely contain myself!! Go babies go!!!!!!!

We have 10 chicks now, with 14 more eggs to go. They were due to hatch tomorrow, so I hope a bunch will hatch tonight. I will open the bator tomorrow and quickly take out the dry chicks so they can start eating and drinking, since some of them hatched on Sunday night. I am concerned about one eggie with a pip hole, and nothing seems to be going on inside. Maybe it dried out?? Anyway, I am just thrilled that one was alive, much less 10 of them! Kristy

Congratulations, Kristi !! Day 20, here and woke up this am to 3 pips and some faint chirping! Looks like the show has begun! 29 eggs....I wonder how many will hatch!

Day 21

Today is the due date and we have 12 out of 24 chicks already hatched. The egg with a pip and nothing going on hatched last night. I can't see any other pips in eggs though. They are so stinkin cute walking around inside the bator, I can't wait to get them into a box under the light. We are most excited about the two tiny solid white chicks. We think they are silkies because the lady that gave us the eggs said she thought there were a couple silkie eggs, but she had packed boxes for 2 people that day, and didn't remember which box she put them in. Well, it looks like they got put in our box! I can't wait to find out how many little Roos we have. We'll have to get rid of them, but we'll still have fun watching them grow. I really wish the green egg would hatch because I'd love to get an EE chicken, but there seems to be no action with that egg. Once I get all the chicks out today, I'll leave the eggs in the bator until day 24, and then we'll crack them open and see what we find. I hope it isn't too gross though. Should we crack them carefully and slowly in case there is a living chick inside? What do you do with unhatched eggs on day 24? Kristy

Day 20. So far, 5 pips and 1 zipped and working on hatching! Lots of chirping going on! . I may have to put a lock on the bator to keep my husband from " helping out" the one that's zipped!. I guess he thinks they should just pop out immedietely. I told him ther is a lot that has to happen before they are ready to free themselves completely. but it's hard, even for me!
