I give my kiddos some LIFEWAY kefir for tummy issues, after antibios, and just for the heck of it. It has 10 kinds of healthy bacteria to help get the gut in order. I like the plain, but the kids prefer the flavored kinds. Also comes in soy I think for those that don't do dairy. The web page :
Yep its going around, I had it last week, oldest dd brought it home from school to us, youngest dd got it, then I got it! My 8 week old nephew had it, that was pitiful, he would be eating a bottle and all of a sudden just SCREAM out, and the only thing the Drs and we believe was that it was that virus! Youngest dd did vomint, but oldest dd and I didnt, just major pains in the belly
my son had it a few weeks ago, the dr said its going around and usually runs its course in about 3 days. She said some are nausous and throw up and some just have belly ache. Toast, yogurt, real ginger ale and crackers. He took the 3 days, I sent him back to school on day 2 because he seemed better but had to go get him by 11am. Just make her comfortable and it will work out.
Just a quick word of advice- it's natural to want to stop the unpleasant symptoms in your kids, but with a GI bug do not attempt to stop the diarrhea using Immodium or something similar. Diarrhea is the body's way of flushing toxins out of the system and stopping that can extend the illness or lead to further complications. If his butt is sore try some Desitin applied topically. If he's still complaining of stomach cramps after the weekend take him in to see a doctor. GI bugs usually last 24-48 hours. If he has a nasty one he may need further treatment.
BRAT diet for treating diarrhea-bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.
I want to echo the part about not using immodium to stop diarrhea. My doctor had a fit that I used it last spring when I had a nasty case of the flu. It lasted well over a week. If I'd avoided the immodium (which did make me feel less horrible), I am sure it would have lasted at least a couple of days less, maybe more.
