My leukemia's back.

Easter Egger roo, Barred Rock hen. I'd have preferred to hatch 'pure' (ha!) EE's, but Iwasn't sure this roo was doing his job, and I can't see a blasted thing in the EE eggs. But hey, I'll know gender within a couple of days on this cross, right?

It looks like a pullet to me. I'm guessing your EE rooster has blue? My blue sex links would be hard to tell sometimes, they'd have light areas on the head that weren't really head spots. But this chick looks to have a solid head, which would mean female.

Oh, I've got to get my pens set up!

No, it's black, all black. It's a trick of the light plus the sheaths on the fluff (chicky was barely dry, but not fluffing yet) that makes it look lighter. BB2K is seriously in love, of course; it would be great if it's a hen. We have 2 more pipped eggs out of 7 set; they went in on the 4th so I guess they were in a hurry?

and I'm so glad you did. Sugar Monkey had a rough day yesterday. He found out a kid he's been working with, tutoring on the side, etc. got expelled for dealing pot at school. 15 years old, right? He took it pretty hard. I had him read through the soonly posts and he actually laughed. So, thank you all from this momma's heart.

The stomach thing was short lived, they're back at school today. I don't think it was that bad to start with, but I just get tired of fighting them to go to school. But thanks for the head's up, hb, I sure don't need to get anything nasty like that.

Trying to get some food prep done for the weekend and next week. I'm working Monday and Tuesday, just 3-4 hours a day, but it's going to be a challenge.

I dreamed last night I found a pen of chickens I'd forgotten about, out in the pasture

. Weird, huh? Here I thought I was doing so well not buying chicks at the Grange, and the incubator isn't fired up yet. buggers, I just realized I'm going to have to find somewhere else to stash the chips and stuff I've been hiding in there the last few months......

Just heartbreaking to be going down that path so young in life - poor Sugar Monkey, glad the antics here could cheer him a bit.

Your subconscious is telling you that you need more birds............

That reminds of something I saw the other day. One of my friends posted a video of her daughter and her newborn granddaughter in the hospital, and the baby was making all those adorable little grunting sounds they make. One woman commented, "Ohh, those sweet baby noises! I can feel my tubes untying!" I almost spit my tea on the screen!!

Got my breeding pens set up tonight

.

My two little silkie cockerels, who have lived together all their lives, suddenly decided to go at each other today. They sparred on and off all day. I'd planned to put them both in the pen with the silver hens, but the one has a torn comb and a bloody spot on his head. I'm afraid the hens will see that and peck. So, he's staying in their little bachelor pad by himself for a few days. Everyone else is pretty much set, though. My main coop only has my Marans, the Leghorns, and the Sussex, plus a few littles growing out. It looks so empty

Still need to cull some cockerels, I think there are 3 or 4 big enough to go. maybe this upcoming week, if the weather is nice.

I've loved spending time with my friend and her baby (4 months old now), but man am I thankful it's not me. I enjoy my freedom at this point way too much. I love the smell and the cuddles, but I can't imagine being tied to another being 24/7 anymore.

I'll just hatch chicks, thank you very much. I can sell them on CL and on one bats an eye!
