My leukemia's back.

Good morning Team Rachel. Wind is wicked outside today, but thankfully there’s a tiny bit of moisture in it this morning. Severe fire weather on top of severe drought is never a good thing. Prayers for those on the front lines today!
Howdy Friday.....:frow
Hope it's a good day for you.....I know you could use one.:hugs

The governor here is pushing hard to ban doctors from prescribing opioids in our state. They're claiming that the doctors are not actually doing wrong, but when someone has been on them a week, or two, then can't get them legally anymore, they're resorting to illegal drugs. Just an observation, but our government seems to thing that depriving law abiding citizens from whatever, will curb those that are not law abiding, which is absurd.

I agree with you @getaclue...absurd! Making more laws doesn't cure anything.

And....Good Morning Team Rachel! Hope everyone has a good Saturday :frow

That makes as much sense as laying them out on the counter at the grocery store. Oxycontin was originally used for end of life pain relief. It should still be available for that. And there are people who have pain that can't be managed otherwise. Where they need to cut back is the 'one time' "you might have some pain, here take these" that could be managed by less or non addictive drugs.

I think there is a time, and place for hard core pain meds. Burn victims, surgical patients, many accident victims, and always end of life patients should get them. No one should have to be in SEVERE pain, when we have the means to alleviate it. A broken arm, while painful, does not deserve 2 weeks of hard pain meds. 5 days worth of milder stuff, for most things like that, is more than sufficient.

It all sounds like going too far. Pain killers for a short time is what the opioids are for. End of life too because who cares it someone is addicted to them when they die and it is very helpful for cancer pain

I think you all miss one point..... It's not any easier to become an addict then it is to become a alcoholic.
noone is gonna get addicted from one script...... Except the people who would become addicted to anything.
I believe the problem comes in when the doctor gets talked into (or maybe doesn't have to be) giving refills..... Over and over.
I've taken opioids for about 15 years..... Don't crave them aren't junkied out on them.
But they don't get me"High" either.
But if I don't take a pill for say 24 hours I do get physical symptoms...... But usually I'm in way to much pain to forget to take them that long.
I guess my point of people are ultimately responsible......I could just as easily sit here all day and take painkillers and do nothing.
But I chose not to live that way.
