The oyster-shells - don't be worried, they will know when they need those. Usually within one to two weeks after starting to lay, they will start consuming the extra calcium. It also helps to offer oyster shells to ducklings. (Yes, start screaming at me y'all!) Both times when my ducks had their own babies in the duck house, the younglings started to eat oyster shells, following mom's example when they were less than one week old. They all survived, even the drakelings.

Yes, the males basically fall silent and the girls can't get enough of their QUACKs… Horny, noisy teenagers!
Oh yes mine do that chatter as well! It’s either when they are playing Jenga with their bodies or getting into something they know they aren’t supposed to. Haha The quack is lower pitched and kinda sounds more like a “mer”. Hard to explain. I will definitely need to get a video.Can you classify this new quack as a “chatter?” The sound I’m talking about seems to only happen when two or more get “in the mood!”
As far as them seeming fussy because you’re around, they probably are. I think they’re in the teenage stage and get ticked when you walk up on them (in their little space). It’s like mom walking up on them doing “new things.”They kind of get out of that stage though. But they do seem much more secretive, than chickens anyway. My ducks do like scoping out our dog houses too.
And as far as the oyster shell goes, they should begin eating it (when they need it.) To begin with I don’t think they need it, but as time goes on they will. And something I have found out is not only is their shells hard as a rock, the membrane is as tough as nails too. It’s really difficult to break into the things. I feel sorry for those little ducklings trying to free themselves during a hatch.

That video is just like the WH duck that @Magnolia Ducks gave us. She has done that to all the ducks and even the drake.
I miss her. So glad shes happy. Her sister Hilde the Saxony is a terror.
