My Love Affair With Ducks...

Pics
Yesterday I began fixing a temporary run to their duckie house so I could finally get them outside. Hello!!!!! I mean, they are 4 weeks old...and stinky! So I just kept an eye on them while working. I went back to check on them after 40 minutes and they still had not gotten out of the pool. They were Just Chillaxin!

Aw, to be a duck! (Well, not one of Ralphie’s ducks!) :gig

Monday afternoon I put up a temporary run (25’ x 15’) for the duckies. I drove the garden stakes in the ground and wired the plastic netting to the stakes all around. It is by no means a ‘predator proof’ run, something only to give them yard time and access to the ground and grass. They will only be turned out in it when I am there, but, then again, I’m always home.

So last night was the duckies’ First Night Outside. They spent the first 4 weeks of their lives inside, first in a kiddie pool and then in my well-wrapped bathroom. Even though I could smell them a little (I constantly picked up poop and shavings to keep the smell down) my biggest reason for moving them was they were breaking my back. Carrying them back and forth in the pet carrier every day was getting rough.

It was hard on me to put them out for the night. I felt so sorry for them. They were already used to the comforts of home. 🤣 They acted out of sorts, but I think they kind of liked the comfort of the hay. Ducklings’ First Outside Bed.

It was supposed to get down into the mid 40’s last night so I went back out and put their heat plate in with them. It is a brooder/heater, so I turned it on its side and turned to heater mode. They were all alive and well this morning so I guess they managed fine. 🤞🏼

In the second video they were all like »Mom! You' still here?! We can't get the party started before you leave us alone!« :lau
You have sheet metal in range of the little bills! And the metal makes noise when touched by little vibrating bills! - They will drive you insane, once they figure that out!!!
I had two pieces of roof-sheets stored on my work-platform and all of my "bitches" could not resist to vibrate it! Loud as a jack-hammer! Now they can't reach those - and use the tub of the wheelbarrow to play "duck music"… :barnie

Thanks a lot! You do know yawning is contagious, do t you? More contagious than the Corona virus, I believe. I’m doomed for the day now.

ETA: that baby’s yawn is absolutely precious though.
Yes and it crosses species. I can make my dog yawn.

And THAT never crossed my mind at all. I just might have to put a barrier between them and the metal.
