My Muscovies are trying to pip - Pictures

I suspect he had some sort of bacterial infection in the intestines and he lost too much weight before I could treat him. It's hard to keep track of all of them when they free range 'cause they'll hide in bushes when they don't feel well.

Very true and they hide illness till almost too late at times also. another reason why i have to keep my numbers at minimum. So I can keep track of them better.

All the more reason for me to find homes for the ducklings! Less to keep track of. I was thinking about going to TSC this weekend with the duckling in a box and finding homes for them that way. Put up a craigslist ad, but no calls yet.

On a cheerier note, just candled and numbered the 15 eggs from nest, two are bad, egg #11 might be dead and the other 12 look viable, but at different stages of incubation, so we'll see what happens. So we're down from 17 (not including the cracked egg) to 13.

You can use clear tape over the crack, I had that happen when my home made incubator broke and the eggs dropped, an egg cracked. The eggs were half way through incubation. I put the tape on it, and it hatched and she was fine. :)

I've done that before, too, but in the name of science and curiosity I opened it. If it had been a pea egg I would have tried to save it.
