My name is Cindi, and I'm a chickenaholic. :)

HI Cindi, my name is Tammy it's been two weeks since we added two more chicks. We were only supposed to get 8 we now up to 16, I was so relived when I called the feed store yesterday and they said they were sold out and done for the year!. The chicken addiction is real!!

Yay!!! We're back!

I ordered 5 more chickens, to arrive at the end of July. Somebody stop me....

Cindi
(already becoming very skilled in the art of chicken math. I have 5 bantams, thus...I really only have ~2.5 chickens. When I get my next batch, there will be 4 layers and one bantam. So I think that actually puts me at like 7 chickens total. Or so I explained to my husband, who is already like "NO MORE CHICKENS." lol)

What kind of chicks are you getting in July?
My six newest are now 6 weeks old--4 brown leghorns, and 2 bantams (a Silver Sebright and a Mille Fleur D'Uccle.) (all look like pullets) They are in stage one of being integrated with the 3 grown hens...an Australorp, a Barred Rock, and a Speckled Sussex. The coop and run are temporarily divided so they can see each other but the hens can't hurt them. I'll start letting them mingle next month and see how it goes. The bantams are feisty little birds! I was worried about putting them with the large breeds, but they have big attitudes for sure.
I don't really have room for more. Well, if someone goes broody, I might get a couple hatching eggs from a neighbor. Just 2 more.
Sue

I'm getting an Easter Egger, two Salmon Faverolles (they are so cute and quirky, they remind me of a creature from Harry Potter) a Mystery Assorted Rare Breed Chicken (fun!) and another MFD. I just love them! All girls. Do you have pics of your MFDs you can post? How many chooks do you have total?

Cindi, there is nothing wrong with you. ....the problem lies in those around you, lol. Non chicken people just don't get it.
Also, regret to inform you, you will find no "help"here, only enabling of your addiction.
On the upside you're among friends!

Why are they so addicting? It's crazy.... but good crazy... :)

Hello!

This thread cracks me up...but I have to say I'm glad I'm not alone! I had chickens years and years ago and lost them to a predator in the winter when I couldn't get home before dark to put them up (worked an hour from home). I swore that night that I'd never get them again until I could be here to put them up/protect them. So, fast forward 15 years, I now work from home and am here ALL the time. I was talking about getting chickens with my sister-in-law and she told me that she has a broody hen. She twisted my arm ;)and I promptly ordered 6 eggs. They sent 11...that was a problem as her broody could only on sit on 5. So, 5 under her, 6 in the incubator (due June 1st Partridge Brahma's & Olive Eggers). Then I read about the low hatch rate of shipped eggs and promptly ordered 12 each of my other desired breeds (Isbar & Easter Eggers). My husband looked at me :eek:and said...yeah, you know your luck...every single one of them will hatch for you! LOL...he might be right (let's hope so)! :lau He is taking it all in stride, is building my new Victorian Chicken Coop...even enlarged the size as I think he sees the writing on the wall. :D Embrace your chicken fever/being a Chickenaholic!!!

A Victorian coop? With, like, turrets, a wraparound porch, and little white chicken-sized Cracker Barrel chairs on it? lol. I am SO envious. You must post pictures!!!

He begged me to not make him build a turret!! So, I let him off the hook on that! It is a cross between a little farmhouse and Victorian. It will have a porch and gingerbread trim. I'll post pictures when he gets further along...right now it is just a 10X10 floor...walls should be going up soon with windows and doors etc.
