My neighbor kidnapped and abused my chickens-seriously

Quote:
Interestingly, the email discussion stopped almost immediately. All negative comments about my birds ceased immediately. And lots of folks in the neighborhood have come to visit my birds and tell me how great it is to have them - and ME - in the community.

Sometimes you just need to smack people FIRST, before they get encouraged to do real damage by your good manners.

I hate that it's this way - but experience has taught me this is how it is.

FemmeJolie - It may be time to consider not being nice person anymore.

I'm just saying.

Glad you got it cleared up, there always someone who thinks they got it over on everything. Be greatful he didn't hurt them them. I'm emotionaly devastated over this-not only for my birds, but the violence connected to it-I have a little boy, if my son's ball goes into his yard, and by son tries to retrive it, will he get hurt, is this guy's 3 year old daughter safe?? He admits in the police report that he did out of anger-if he can do that-who knows.......

Cute picture!

Wishing you well with the neighbor.Always be outside with pets and kids now.And sadly I would say check the property for things tossed into the yard. Some people will place poisoned food or tacks(and misc) for your animals to eat.

I am hoping that the court issue will scare him enough to stay on his side of the line, and just give you the evil eye.Lol,the hens can get him the stink eye right back!

I am the type that fights back, and doesn't stop till it's good and over! Sounds like you are too! Find out if there is a local farm bureau or four-H group to get involved with. That way when you go to court others that have chickens can go to and show their concern by standing with you. Also get that same group to go to a animal humane society, city and county board meeting and speak your 3 mins. at each about your situation. Ask to toughen the laws and share your concern about safety. I have done this many times and let me tell you it gets results. Once you say your address and then say "a next door neighbor did this" you will be surprised how many people will know him! And if you speak at a couple of board meetings the newspaper will find you and print your story! A little voice can go a long way! Good Luck, and Fight, Fight, Fight!

Oh!!! He is an issue, all on his own. I just hope that because he admitted it, he will get something in court. Funny, I moved from NY to Jersey!! But I love NY, the people are so much nicer. This would have never happened in NY-in my old neighborhood.

This is the time you want chickens classified as livestock not pets. The laws protecting livestock are typically stronger than the ones for pets. Back in the day you could get hung for stealing livestock.

Well, I've just finished the whole thread and would like to say that I believe we'd all like to be kept up-to-date on what transpires when it comes up in court. I know it has been said, but please be careful...this man (yeah, right) has major issues; someone has said he might throw things into your yard and, sadly, I agree. Keep your eyes on your own child, too, and do a visual sweep of your yard in the morning before you left your chickens out for the day, if you can...any dead animals, etc could have been poisoned. Also, if the neighbour has his own chickens I would wonder how healthy they are...keep your own away from his.

He sounds vindictive...be very aware every time you go out.
