my neighbor's chickens

I put in the first bid to adopt you as my neighbour

I agree with the Sevin statement. Nobody has chiggers like we do here- it's a evil we all live with, and they're on the rabbits, the squirrels, etc. so it has nothing to do with chickens here.

You can use Sevin on your yard and it's not going to kill the birds. You may not know this, but you can get Flowers of Sulfur at any pharmacy and put it in an old sock to dust yourself so you don't get bitten. It says not to put it on the skin, but I called Poison Control myself, and they said it's just a liability thing, that pharmacies use it in compounds FOR the skin.

You'll never be bitten again if you dust your ankles, and if you intend to sit in the grass, you dust your underwear elastics.

Fact: showering within an hour of being in a chigger-infested area will prevent chigger bites altogether.

. My chickens are starting to wonder to our front yard even though they have more than enough back yard. My fear is them going to hang out with the niegbors who have chickens too, but not free range. I keep shooing them out back hoping I can train them to not cross the road. You are a good neighbor!!

Do what you need to do...
They must not care too much about their chickens if they let them roam in other folks yards...

Respect to the OP for being caring and reasonable with a neighbor who is pushing the boundaries of neighborliness.

Agreed; the fact that both chickens and chiggers appeared does not mean that one carried the other. If the chickens have chiggers now it's just as likely they got them from the neighborhood.

There is apocryphal evidence that chickens may actually reduced chigger population by eating them.

I agree with the Babelfish translation first ("dear neighbor, I applying pesticide to my lawn tomorrow. If this will bother your birds please make arrangements. BTW, eggs are delicious.") , followed by an application of pesticide the next day.

You are a good neighbor to go through the trouble of finding BYC, registering and posting.

Your neighbor must keep his birds on his own property. All of us bird owners have this responsibility. I wouldn't worry about the chickens bringing in chiggers; it assumes that his birds have chiggers to start with, and most likely they don't. Moreover, chiggers will come over from your neighbor's property (or any property around you) without any help from the birds. Too bad you can't get your neighbor to read BYC

. Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.
