My order from Cackle....UPDATE: THEY'RE HERE but the saga continues...

Same issue with Cackle here except they waited for 3 weeks and told me 2 days before my chicks were to be shipped that they couldn't ship to my area.

I absolutely would not pay for those other chicks! That was their fault completely and the way I see it, what they owed you for the headache they caused in the first place. Make sure you check your credit card statement carefully incase they try to charge you for them. If they do, I would call the credit card company and report that it was an unauthorized charge amount to your card.

Good luck with the continuing saga!

And oh yes! Enjoy those little chicks!!!

I don't have a credit card yet. So I used one of those Visa debit giftcards. There was only $100 on it, and I had to really work hard to make sure my total stayed under $100 after tax. So if they try to charge my card for the extra chicks, they won't get any money!

EDITED TO SAY: I got my order from Ideal yesterday, and Ideal is my favorite hatchery. They have a great selection, good prices and AWESOME customer service! They didn't send any extras (ok, they sent one extra cubalaya pullet), but Ideal is the best.

Someone please correct me if it's been changed, but I believe the law says that you don't have to pay for anything you receive in the mail that is unsolicited. Since you only ask for "X" amount, anything over is a freebie

Well, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Cackle.

I order from Cackle because of the excellent customer service and the health of the chicks I get. I don't order from any other hatchery anymore.
I have been ordering from them for over 4 years, over 1500 chicks and have only had 1 shipment with a problem, and it was the airlines fault. They ran over my box of chicks.
Cackle called me and let me know what had happened, apologized profusely and they sent me chicks the next week and sent 11 extra.

Yes, they are a smaller hatchery and things are done by human hands.
That being said, the chicks are handled with much more care than other larger hatcheries.

I will still use them for everything I can't hatch enough of.

I have dealt with Cackle in the past and had great results with them. Most places would not sell less then 30 guineas and I think this is so they stay warm during shipment. Cackle was willing to do an order of 15. They ended up shipping 22 in the box. they said that they always like to put in a couple more keets/chicks when they ship in case one were to die. buy 15 and get 7 free ones, i could handle that. those guineas were the most peppy things i have seen and never had one die.
i have a color catalog from them sitting in front of my with real photos in it, not hand drawings like other places use.

they should not charge you for the extras, they are there for shipping, the front office might not know how many extra are there, more then likely the person packing them might see that he/she has an extra chick so puts it in too.

Sorry to hear about all of the trouble with Cackle. Glad to hear you received your chics. I have ordered from Cackle in the past and will continue to order from them. I haven't had any problems with them. I'm preparing to place another order from Cackle in the next week or so. I'm excited !
