My buff orpington rooster has an infection and I need help. He has a black and white blotch on his comb. I need help now because i want to put him in a fair which is in 5 months.

Can you post some photos?

It's hard to know from your description - are you dealing with Fowl Pox or is the black and white from pecking injuries? Treatment would be a little different for either one.

he hasn't been pecked so it is probably fowl pox, but how do you cure it.

Where do you live? Is it wintertime and cold, or is it warm there? It looks like pecking from other chickens, and there even might be a little frostbite on the tips of the comb, but also could be pecking? The while near the dark marks is probably just healing taking place where there were peck wounds. I would either leave it alone to heal on it's own, or apply some coconut oil to help moisturize the dry skin. This does not really look like favus or a fungal infection to me, but others may hav other opinions.

It looks like pecking to me. You can apply a little triple antibiotic ointment and rub in some coconut oil, A+D ointment or something similar if you feel like he needs it.
The tips look like they may have some slight frostbite - it really depends on how much damage is on the tips - it's possible they may round slightly and the discoloration will disappear.

Since you are wanting to try to show him in 5months, I recommend that you house him separately to give the comb an opportunity to heal. If he is mild tempered like my BO rooster, then he is most likely letting a hen or two pick at the comb - therefore it's not completely healing. Mine will stand and let one hen in particular pick at the scab on his comb until it looks like that. I can't tell you why he does it - maybe it feels good or he like the attention or could be a combination of both

I have treated mine several times only for it to look similar to this - so without separating him, it will continue to look like that.

Hey, that's great! It's spring right now here in NC too

For it to heal, you will need to keep him from those picking hens. It will usually take more than a week for a wound like that to heal up.

If you are wanting him ready for show, then you will have to be diligent on keeping the comb protected. Frostbite on the tips is common in large combed fowl.

How do I protect him from anymore more injuries or infections. If he does have frostbite how would I heal him.
