My Pea Pen - Irene Took Down!! *UPDATED W/PICS*

Thats awesome..awesome.. their gonna love it!!!!

and that tree.. I cut my tree back down to about 16 feet.. before putting up the fence.. because as you can see on my page.. I put the netting up and over the tree with wood connected to the tree.. to make a teepee look

I guess you could add some wood at the highest part you could possibly go around the tree.. and staple the netting around the tree..etc

I dont know...man.. really I am just thinking here.. cause beleive me if I could have figured out away to do that I would have left my tree also 30 feet high...

good luck.. hopefully together everyone will come up with some awesome ideas.. for ya
xoxo

wannabchick, the netting is already attached to the tree. I am going to put a piece of black lawn edging around the tree to cover the netting that is gathered around it. I am also going to put more perches in there

Do you get bad winters where you are? I am in Kentucky and was trying to compare. I was wondering if you had any housing for them?? I have been trying to find out what would be best for my peafowl.

Your pen is amazing! Very beautiful!!

Your not using 2" poultry wire are you? If so you will need to replace it in about 1 or 2 years it is real thin and rust fast, I found out the hard way when we had a Java and other peafowl hit the sides and went throught the wire like it was paper and you want catch a Java once he's loose.

We now use 3/4 poultry wire and have had some of that up for 10 years, Something to think about.

It does look really nice! How tall is the fencing on the sides?

You might want to cut the tree down eventually... leaves and falling branches on netting can be a pain. The other thing that I hate about netting is when it gets a heavy snow load (wet snow sticks very well and the netting sags), it can do some real damage to fences so you may need to knock snow off now and then in the winter. (I have seen it pull the side fences in, snap the posts, and the whole thing collapse).

I need to build something like that, just need to figure out where. I have 28 acres and scratch my head as I look for a good place... What looks good now will be drifted in over the winter.

Be super extra careful with just chain link- this size is a size that raccoons can get their grubby little paws through, and the peas can stick their heads through... we don't have coons where my peas are, but a friend of mine had a major problem and was finding headless birds when she had only chain link. The coons wait just outside it and your curious peas will stick their heads out to see them... goodbye pea

The netting on top of your pen is awesome

Such a large pen I am sure they will be thrilled to be in it. Take pics when they get to enjoy it!

Here is the pen finished (except the siding on the shed) with the birds in it:

Looks great!!

One question, One tree is In, it looks beautiful, but one tree out?

Can a varmint climb tree outside pen and leap or cross to center tree? (raccoons, possum) I can't tell in your photo if how close the trees are. If they are close, are you trimming or have trimmed the branches that they can cross from outside behind the wire to above the netting? OR is that even a concern. (We are working on getting raccoon/varmint proofed atm.)
