My personal experience of keeping a rooster in an anti rooster neighborhood!

Okay guys go easy on her! It wasn't her who claimed to need the emotional support animal, she was just telling a story! Being an animal lover (and a young member), she may not have understood at the time of posting that this isn't such a good thing!
Telling a story and defending that choice. to help others find loop holes in the law so they can get away without complying to local ordinances. Without those of us who care about these type of things saying something.. maybe the OP never considers how their actions or that of other loophole seekers effects the rest of society. Maybe by seeing folks who are still passionate about chickens appalled by these actions, that quite frankly ARE harmful to others, will help them to reconsider. Living in a country with SO many freedoms.. and yet it's never enough. Keep this crud up and watch us ALL lose what few freedoms and rights we currently have!

A local gal.. on section 8 housing, with a welfare check pays only $150/month for 2 bedroom townhouse (valued at $950/mo).. and got that STUPID ESA BS online.. so the land lord couldn't charge a deposit or refuse to rent to the 2 large dogs. A holes.. just trying to pull one over on society.. is exactly what I would say if my nearest and dearest FRIEND if they told me that's what they were gonna do.

I'm telling a story as well.. one where the mentally ill or handicapped struggle every day and the land owners are being taken advantage of by laws meant to protect the needy.. but turning so many folks like myself cold.. towards all the fakers.. which unfortunately MIGHT overspill to those who are truly benefiting from the law as it was intended.

Protect the actual needy.. not the schemers and SCAMMERS! That's all
I'm saying! :hugs

Agreed! The rules are not as people think they are. You can be asked what things the animal helps you with for service animals and if it is just Emotional support you can be asked to show documentation proving a doctor ordered your animal as a treatment. People think if they say, "it is a service dog" everyone has to stop and leave them alone. That is not the reality of things. And the more people lie the harder it will get for everyone who needs the service animal.

Came because I thought there was hope, stayed for the bean talk. I don't necessarily agree with the no rooster rules, but I understand and support them because I know why they're in place. I live out in the middle of clucking nowhere so I can get away with having 13 permanent males and the extras that I'm waiting to butcher.

I get irritated with people with fake service animals. Especially if the person or animal are bratty. My work has to allow service animals inside, and at this point my boss has given up trying to enforce the rule because of people wanting to eat food with their obnoxious rat of a mutt.

I'm not sure how the support animal rules work in your areas, in mine they are quite strict and require lots of paperwork and proof (from doctors) and I'm confident that if it's not actually supported this way, @Weeg , your neighbors might just be prolonging having to get rid of the rooster, and they probably just wasted money on a fake online certificate.

The only accepted service animals by the Americans with Disabilities act are dogs and mini horses..

As responsible members of a wonderful community.. we should be encouraging personal growth and true commitment to our communities at large and not just looking out for numero uno. Hey I can't fix the world.. not my monkeys, not my circus! But I have stated my reason for concern very clearly.

I think it's great that people are paying attention to THEIR possibilities and love that they're intelligent enough to consider these things!!! However.. in this game of life.. I encourage above the board play.. cheating eh, it's getting away with something.. but long term it doesn't really feel good.. well, for me.. I know the truth.. Cheaters gonna cheat, Haters gonna hate..

Friends don't trip friends.. they lift them up. A hurtful truth from a friend is still sweeter than a bitter lie from the enemy! :highfive:

I would appreciate it if I didn't get criticized on this thread anymore. The owner of the rooster is 84 years old, and the crow is VERY helpful to his lively hood. I would have mentioned this earlier, but I didn't think to get into to much detail. I understand that this doesn't work for everyone, but I wasn't looking for criticism in this thread. I am sorry if I offended anyone, I am sorry I didn't make it more clear, that the rooster DOES act a emotional support.

If your first post had said something like "I know someone who really needs their rooster as an emotional support animal, and they were able to keep it even in a no-rooster area," people probably would have said that was great. (If that's the true story, it is a great thing.)

But the way you first told the story, it sounded like "they wanted a rooster, so they lied about it being an emotional support animal, and got to keep it." So that's what people are responding to--the idea that someone can keep a rooster if they just lie about why they have it.
