good one!

I thought that it is a good use the male packing peanuts. I think of the horror of unwanted day old males being gassed or killed some other way. At least with the male packing peanuts they get to either be given away to someone by the orderer, kept or used for food. At least a chance. I personally think that the male packing peanuts is a great idea and wonderful use of what would be a waste of an animal.

I had a pretty good experience with MPC. I wanted a small order of mixed breeds. They were very helpful when a couple of substitutions became necessary. The chicks did arrive one day early, luckily I was home. I don't really know if that was MPC's mistake or the hatchery. My order arrived from Ideal. I think they have several hatcheries country-wide with whom the deal. They'll choose the one nearest you that still has the breeds you've selected. I think it's pretty cool for first timers. One caveat, don't buy feed or accessories from them. They really are overpriced.

I've had a mixed experience with them.

Positive: I live in Brooklyn, NY and would NEVER be able to deal w/ 25 chicks from the other hatcheries. MPC made this possible. I got my 3 chicks yesterday and they are perky and gorgeous.

Negative: I've had problems with almost everything else I've ordered from them. I ordered a 12" chick feeder. I received an 18" feeder, which didn't fit in my brooder. It turns out it was a mistake on their website and they don't offer a 12" feeder. They told me to keep it, but I still haven't been credited the amount + shipping.

I just opened up the chick crumbles and they have tiny bugs crawling in them. I'm hesitant to call them up because the whole chick feeder debacle. Everyone is very nice on the phone, but it takes several tries to rectify problems.

My chicks seem to like the little bugs. Is this a bad thing? The grain doesn't smell or seem "off" in any other way. Do I need to dump it, or can the girls enjoy some live protein??
