Well, here's a stunner - been ordering from MPC for 2 years now and always - ALWAYS - chicks shipped on Monday arrive here on Thursday. We simply do not have mail service like folks in bigger communities enjoy.
So I'm having my coffee this morning, thinking about what I have to get done before Kendra gets here for the day, and my phone rings. It's the Post Office in Lovell, 6 miles away and our mail distribution center. "Hey, Di, your chicks are here." WHAT? It's only 7 am on WEDNESDAY - what the heck are they doing here already??? So I got dressed, ran down and picked them up, and they look great! Everything I ordered, plus a heat pack I forgot to ask for. I have one little Silver Spangled that doesn't seem to have quite as much energy as the others, but I'll keep a close eye on her and if she has to stay inside an extra day or so we'll do that. I have Silkie eggs due to hatch on Friday, so she'll have some company in a bit if I do opt to keep her in the house until she looks stronger. She's eating and drinking, and got her Nutri-Drench, so I think she'll be fine.
2 Blue Andalusians
2 White Cochins
2 Wellsummers
2 Buckeyes
2 Silver Spangled Hamburgs
While I was on my way to the post office, Ken brought the brooder crate inside, set up MHP, and filled the nipple waterer and the feeder. So all I had to do was bring them in, give each one a bit of Nutri-Drench, show them the water, and tuck 'em into the cave. Now I just hear those contented little churring sounds coming out from under MHP and I think they are all going to be fine. Tomorrow they'll go outside and live in the brooder in the run, except that one if I feel she needs a little more time. The older chicks have been fully integrated with the Bigs for about a week now, so they are officially evicted. I may keep the little Naked Neck in the brooder with these, since he's just a couple of weeks old and quite a bit smaller yet. We'll see. He can show them the ropes out there.
@MyPetChicken - Alex, would you thank the folks at MPC for me, and also I thank you for being so willing to come in here and check on how everyone is doing, answer questions, and share a few laughs with us. Nice to have a friend in "high" places!!
