My pic of eggs & mini rant...

Sell jars of pickeled eggs...

For that reason I have half my flock that lays white eggs. I never have a problem with either. As far as taste, my wife says the brown ones have richer tasting yokes. I can't tell the differance.

People here are just the opposite, they won't buy eggs that are not brown

I guess they figure if they wanted white eggs they could go to the store and buy them

maybe I can bleach them LMBO!!! (or install bleach bottles in their rears...) (that was from another post of someone elses..)...

You could pickle them, then the people would have no idea what color they started out as...plus you could sell them for more

Since they put the color on the eggs last, maybe you could scare them when they are getting ready to lay so they forget to put the color coat on the eggs? Might keep the kids busy having them in the coop yelling boo to the chickens when they are laying at least.

Not all birds put the color on at the end, mainly it's the ones that are very dark like marans.

thanks!

It is really neat to see what brown colors there are...
I have NO clue what chicken lays what colors EXCEPT my Easter Eggers...ONE of them are laying the light light teal eggs..not even sure which one of the three lol...
but I have Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorps, Red Sexlinks, Turkens, Barred rocks that are laying right now...only about 10 of them...
I have about 17 hens that should start anytime..but they'll all be brown variations too..
I have 2 brahmas that WILL lay white eggs; but they arent anywhere close to laying; maybe another 3 wks??

Brahmas are brown egg layers.

White egg layers would be Leghorns, Lakenvelders, Anconas, Minorcas, etc.

You should just tell these silly people: THEY ARE ALL THE SAME ON THE INSIDE. JUST LIKE PEOPLE!! And then stare at them sternly for about 6 seconds to let it sink in.

I'm not sure why people prefer one color to the other, but my husband is the same way. He prefers brown. Says the white ones from the store make him sick. So most of our layers are brown layers, but I threw in a couple whites and green for a little variety. I'm curious to see if he will eat the white eggs since they are coming from our own chickens. (I only have two laying and he's been out of town for work for 2 months).

Oh, also... I had to explain the refrigeration thing to a few friends of mine. They were all receptive to learning and after explaining the "bloom" that coats the egg, they were in awe. I love to share my knowledge. So now when friends come across fresh eggs, they come to me with questions. The last comment I got was: I trust ya. If you'd eat them, then I'll eat them.

I personally don't have a preference as far as taste goes. I usually buy brown when shopping except at Easter time for coloring. My chicks haven't started laying yet still waiting. Although I don't have any white egg layers by chance just because of the breeds available at swap the week I purchased. My husband prefers brown over white as well as all my sisters.

What's the old jingle from when I was growing up? Can't even remember where or what company it came from...
" Brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh! "
