My Plucker - Version 1 - Video of birds being plucked

I have one of those $350 tablet top pluckers that you can get on eBay (search for "chicken plucker).

Your plucker is a little slower but not much! I'll bet that replacing the bungee cord pieces with fingers would make a big difference!

My husband didn't consider it a reasonable price until I mentioned how much processing 30-50 birds for thanksgiving would cost. Now he's singing a different tune. Waiting for my book...

I just got finished making one a lot like the one in your video. I will know in a little while how mine works, I have two roos to cull. They are at 20 weeks of age, will they be tough or can I roast them? Thanks.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but.
They are in a coop/run,eating Purina Start and Grow,weeds and grass most everyday,and lots of leftovers .
I looked and I made a mistake these two are only 13 weeks. They are just getting to loud for my small yard!

Brine them. Add 1 cup of salt to 2 gallons of water and let them sit in a pot
overnight in your fridge.


I've tried every variation from throwing them on the grill still warm to brining them
in 1 cup salt to 1 gallon water(too salty). Most of our standards get culled from as
early as 8 weeks to as late as 18 weeks and most end up in the crock pot.

My next bird will be brined for 24 hours in 1/2 cup salt to 1 gal water and then baked.
We deep fried the last one.


I'd do a search or make a new thread so many of the pros out there can answer.
I'm still new at all this stuff too.

I have 6 finger cut so far from bungies, and three sizes of pvc caps to try:

for the Bungies, are you talking about the ones that you get from the Hardware store, with the hooks on each end.?

This is a duplicate reply as there are a few active plucker threads right now

My large plucker:
4" Drain(not schedule 40) PVC using a 5/8 threaded rod for the center because
it couples easy with my variable speed buffer. This same design can be used
with 3/8" rod so it fits in a standard drill.

My drill type plucker:
Works ok. 4" Drain PVC Cap with a 3/8" threaded rod.

I plan to build an enclosure around my larger plucker & shorten the length on the
bungees.

I really should buy some plucker fingers.

I made one and tryed it on turkey and it worked ok on the breast bit thats it. maybe I operated it wrong is there a trick?
