My Plucker - Version 1 - Video of birds being plucked

This is a duplicate reply as there are a few active plucker threads right now

My large plucker:
4" Drain(not schedule 40) PVC using a 5/8 threaded rod for the center because
it couples easy with my variable speed buffer. This same design can be used
with 3/8" rod so it fits in a standard drill.

on ur hm12" long plucker how many fingers did you place on it

see I just order some fingers from
http://www.strombergschickens.com/products/processing.php

I now have sometime off from work and just finish remodeling one of my empty apartments so I’m going to start build a mini pluckier for starts seeing I’m due for a few butchering of turkeys and chickens .

so I getting ready to start building this ,

another question how are you'll Scalding ur birds befor plucking I can't seem to fine a pot big enought for the big turkeys , I'm thinking i would need a 55 gal. barrel cut in half or something

I think I used 20, 4 rows of 3 and 4 rows of 2.

I may order some fingers too. The bungies work well but fingers are better.
I may also trim the bungies to 3" instead of 4".

I use a turkey fryer to scald but anything over 15 pounds is too big for it. A 55
gallon drum would work fine and I've seen pics of people using them on youtube.

Purple Chicken --- do you have to use a buffer or can you use a commercial drill (a large one) an old Craftsman drill. I bet the drill my hubby has weighs 4 lbs. Anyways, was wondering. Thanks

Hey PC Thanks , my fingers came in today a total of 24 now it time to figure what I will do ,but thanks for this post and ur mini plucker now I will have to build one of my own

Thanks Again ,
Al.

Sure, any electric drill will do.

Now I am talking about the big plucker you made, not the one with the small hand drill. Just wondering if you knew which one I was talking about.

Where did you order your fingers. I need to replace the bungees with fingers. The
bungees work surprising well and are cheap but I wanna build another with fingers.

Keep us posted on your project!

It would work with either. My bigger plucker uses a 5/8" rod since my buffer is 5/8".

Use 3/8" rod if using a drill. It should work fine.

The nicest thing about the buffer is I can vary the speed easier. Anything quick than
1000 rpm is too tough to handle.

hey PC ' QUESTION FOR YA

what about using a 7 .25 " OR 7 1/4 " TABLE TOP SAW
I have a old one in which I was thinking about turnin into a table plucker

if I adapt the shaft to the motor with the pvc pipe and fingers
then cut the slots on the table top for the fingers
and maybe place a varible speed switch to the saw so I 'll be able to get the 1000 rpm

its an old sears table top saw which slows down when I trying to cut a piece of pine board so I purchase a new 10" table top saw so my old one is just sitting there in my garage doing nothing so I was thinking on doing somethink with it for a table top plucker ??????????? any input on ur thoughts or input on this invention as of this thought of mine

MMMMMMMM GREAT MINE'S THINK ALIKE

2-morrow I will play with this Idea an see what I can up with
