My power went out this morning

Deerman, what do you mean it only lasted a half an hour? Before the battery died? It depends upon upon the size of the battery, if you drive around in a little matchbox car, you'll probably have to keep the car running. If you have a truck with a good sized starting battery it may last a little longer, but you shouldn't expect hours of use out of it.

Blankets aren't recommended because you smother the eggs. They need not only heat, but oxygen.

Sounds like it's time for McD's or Arctic Circle.

That could get expensive if you did it enough.

We have our brooders and Bators, hooked up to battery backups. They are used mainly for computers, but when the electric goes out they surly save us. They will turn right on a run the electric for hours. You can get them new and used on ebay. I would recommend them to anyone!

We've had power out around here also..in the next town over, from an ice storm...my brother came over today to get our generator and camp stove for his in-laws,,they said they may not have electricity for up to 10 days!..good thing they have a fireplace for heat...my brother brought them some wood for it today so they dont freeze..brrr!....

In my case, a space blanket over the top would not cover any ventilation holes, but should hold in any escaping rising heat.

Besides, I'm trying supplementing a 'lil oxygen to my eggs as an experiment. They should not get oxygen deficient, even if the power is out and the ventilation holes are blocked.

I candled 23 eggs that were on day 7 tonight. I had a bunch of veins and a few clear ones. Only two had blood rings so I think I made it through this ok.

That's great Buster! Hope the hatch goes good for ya. Did you ever get that generator???
