My Science Teacher said something I do not particularly agree with....

Maybe gather all the facts, and leave it on his desk when he's not looking. Don't put your name on it. He'll take out his anger, at being proven wrong, on your grade. Having said that, he needs to be corrected so he doesn't screw up the minds of 1000's of other kids going through his class.

A co-worker of mine told us that her teacher taught them that mucus was dead brain cells, and another that the pilgrims did not come to this land for religious freedom.

If you really want to screw up a kids mind, teach him History, from a History textbook

I don't know what grade you are in but I find that a lot of basic precollege educators lack the ability to listen to their students. I say offer to do a presentation in class about chickens and even they will learn something.

I say don't really knock the teacher because they are human, and we would all more behind without them. They don't know everything and will have assumptions. I mean, how many teachers and non teachers think you need a rooster to lay eggs? Shoot, they went to school 4-5 years to get a crappy paying job, they do it for the satisfaction of teaching. Granted there are some bad ones so there are always exceptions.

If they are a good teacher, they will let you do a presentation and prove them wrong. They will listen to you and not dismiss your work. Remember now, cite all the places you used and avoid things like wiki. Go to breed web pages associated with things like APA as they should be credible.

As a side note which is inappropriate if you are not high school level or on good terms with the teacher, ask " Does that mean human eggs are different colors too?"

Just wait to get to college, you're professors can often become almost like colleagues if you share their interests and are willing to do more than memorize what they tell you. Like here though, there are ALOT of exceptions ans professors do not have to teach and many are forced to.

Time to make a power point presentation! I say do it and post it here so we can review it for you!

I would want to prove him wrong, but -knowing him- he will not like to be corrected and will probably take it out on my grade. PurpleChicken is right, he is wrapped up in his ego. Maybe I will do what Lonecowboy suggested and leave an anonymus paper explaining the truth.....

I was just about to tell you to get the shot gun and keep a watch on your incubator. There might be a scientist hiding in your closet waiting to inject your eggs.

In fact, there must be thousands of these sneaky little scientist all over the world with briefcases full of dye and syringes hiding in coops and closets.

I am a science teacher, that said, there is lots I don't know and I don't hesitate to tell my kids that when I don't have an answer. BUT I am willing to go out and look it up...of course after making sure I tell them to do the same! Your science teacher should know (especially if he is biology and I am biology certified) about meiosis and understand genetics. I did that same lab with my 8th graders who loved seeing how water moved.

I would do the research to show him he is wrong, but do it in a non threatening way. I would act "helpful". I wouldn't hesitate to have one of my students present something that furthered my education or my students!

On another note...maybe he was pulling your leg?
